Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position is responsible for facilitating a positive experience for program participants in a variety of recreation summer camps. Summer Camp Counselor’s ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment for children 3 to 12 years old. Camp types will range from preschool aged camps, sports camps, art camps, and specialty themed camps such as Superhero Training Camp, Wizarding World of Hogwarts Camp, and Mystical Mermaids Camp. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: • Assist the Recreation Specialists/Coordinators with the facilitation and supervision of youth orientated programs, camps, after-school programs, and events., • Lead recreation games, crafts, sports, and pre-planned activities., • Assist with the supervision of program participants to meet the needs of the activity, event, or program., • Perform set-up for program activity area and ensure activity area is safe for use., • Clean up the activity area and return equipment to proper storage areas, turn off all equipment, perform minor custodial duties, and properly secure area at the end of a work shift., • Greet the public; provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions, and other general information over the phone and in person., • Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior. Communicate feedback between participants and program supervisor., • Ensure all participants are registered and maintain accurate attendance records., • Assist in evaluating program success and make recommendations., • Ensure the safety of program participants, co-workers, and the public by following District policies. If necessary, provide first aid. Report all incidents/accidents to a supervisor immediately. Complete and submit appropriate accident/incident records and forms., • Determine program equipment and supply needs. Assist with the distribution, care, use, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Maintain supply and equipment inventories., • Enforce District policies and procedures, resolve day-to-day problems as they arise, and assist supervisors with resolving major issues., • Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers, and the public., • Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Required Experience: • Childcare: 1 year (required) Required Education: • High school diploma or GED. Professional Licenses/Certifications: • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification within 3 months of employment. Knowledge/Skills: • Working knowledge of recreation programs, services, and appropriate activities for youth; strong interest in working with youth., • Leads recreation games, activities, sports, and pre-planned programs., • Promote interest and enthusiasm in recreational activities., • Takes responsibility and ownership for successfully accomplishing work and the organization’s objectives and delivering results. Sets high standards of shared performance for self and others., • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other staff members, program participants, and the public., • Work in a group or as an individual with minimal supervision., • Identify and prevent hazards, implement solutions, maintain safe environments., • Knowledge of basic needs and safety concerns associated with the care of assigned populations., • Identifies opportunities and issues and acts to capitalize on or resolve them for the benefit of the organization’s services., • Communicate courteously and cooperatively with other staff and the public, on the telephone or in-person, including handling difficult or irate people. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Work is performed in an office environment, recreation facilities, and outdoors at various parks and properties., • Some work will be performed in settings with exposure to varying environmental and weather conditions., • The position will occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds., • This position will require seeing, talking, walking, standing, bending, crouching, crawling, carrying, pushing, and pulling., • Prolonged periods of time may be spent using a computer, telephone, and other office equipment., • Some local traveling will be required for meetings and visiting District facilities., • This position may work an irregular schedule that includes some evenings and weekends as dictated by District programs and special events., • Valid Washington driver’s license (required). To provide excellent customer service to all program patrons by exemplifying a positive attitude and exceeding the needs of patrons. Work hours will vary, up to 79 hours per month. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: • May include but are not limited to the following programs: youth or adult sports leagues, sports camps and clinics, and special events., • Assist the Recreation Coordinator with the planning, coordination and supervision of youth activities, youth camps, special events, instructional classes, and teen programming., • Communicate feedback between participants and program supervisor., • Prepare documents such as letters, program evaluation forms, memos, accident reports, and rosters., • Utilize software system to process program registrations and update client accounts., • Attend meetings and trainings as assigned., • Be actively involved with program participants and engage in activities at all times., • Perform facility opening and closing responsibilities., • Perform minor custodial duties as needed., • Perform minor maintenance and custodial duties., • Assist with other recreation programs as requested., • Perform related duties, as assigned. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Work is performed in an office environment, recreation facilities, and outdoors at park locations., • This position may work an irregular schedule that includes some evenings and weekends as dictated by District programs and special events., • May have contact with adverse weather conditions, noise, dust, poor air quality, pollen, and insects., • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects., • Position is subject to environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Position is subject to noise, and/or vibration., • Valid Washington driver’s license (required).
