Alarm Planning Superintendent (Fire Alarm & Life Safety Systems) Overview We are seeking an experienced Alarm Planning Superintendent to lead the planning, design, and execution of fire alarm and life safety system projects. This role serves as the technical authority, ensuring all system designs meet code requirements while supporting field teams and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget. Key Responsibilities Planning & Design • Develop and review fire alarm and life safety system layouts, riser diagrams, calculations, and equipment specifications, • Ensure compliance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), and local codes, • Coordinate designs with architectural, electrical, and mechanical plans, • Prepare and review submittals, shop drawings, and technical documentation, • Support permitting and approvals with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) Project Coordination • Partner with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure accurate execution, • Provide technical guidance during installation and commissioning, • Review RFIs, change orders, and scope modifications, • Assist with scheduling, planning, and resource allocation Quality & Compliance • Maintain quality standards across design and installation, • Conduct plan reviews, audits, and site inspections, • Ensure proper documentation for testing, inspections, and certifications, • Support system acceptance, testing, and project turnover Leadership & Development • Lead and mentor designers, planners, and junior team members, • Provide training on codes, standards, and best practices, • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement Client & Stakeholder Support • Act as a technical liaison for clients, consultants, and inspectors, • Participate in design meetings and pre-construction planning, • Resolve technical challenges and provide system recommendations, • Support business development with technical expertise Required Qualifications • High school diploma or GED required; degree in engineering, electronics, construction management, or related field preferred, • 5+ years of experience in fire alarm/life safety system design, installation, or project management, • Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire/building codes, • Experience creating alarm system drawings and submittals, • Proficiency with CAD/BIM and design software, • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites Preferred Certifications • NICET Fire Alarm Systems (Level II–IV), • State or local fire alarm license, • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, Honeywell), • BICSI or related credentials Key Skills • Strong technical and analytical capabilities, • Excellent organizational and planning skills, • Effective communication and leadership abilities, • High attention to detail and quality, • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Work Environment • Combination of office and field-based work, • Active construction site exposure (ladders, confined spaces, etc.), • Occasional lifting as required, • Travel to project sites and client locations What Success Looks Like • Accurate, code-compliant system designs, • On-time project delivery, • High approval rates from AHJs, • Reduced rework and design issues, • Strong client and field team satisfaction, • Development and retention of a high-performing team
