Job DescriptionInterim Director, Accounts Payable Location: Flexible (U.S.-based) Travel: ~25% ongoing; up to 50% during first 60 days Duration: 3–6 months (with potential overlap to onboard permanent hire) Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Accounts Payable to step in during a leadership transition and provide immediate operational stability while a search is conducted for a permanent AP leader. This role will ensure continuity of day-to-day operations, strengthen AP processes, and support scalability within a complex, multi-ERP environment. The ideal candidate is a true Accounts Payable subject matter expert—someone who has worked “in the weeds” of AP and brings deep functional knowledge, not just high-level oversight as part of a broader shared services organization. Key Responsibilities • Provide interim leadership for the Accounts Payable function, managing a distributed team of approximately 30–40 employees, including managers and supervisors, across multiple states and locations, • Maintain stability and performance of AP operations during leadership transition, • Define, implement, and monitor KPIs and SLAs for the AP organization, establishing structure and visibility where metrics are currently underdeveloped, • Act as the hands-on AP expert, supporting invoice processing, vendor escalations, and system-related challenges, • Lead AP operations in a highly acquisitive (M&A) environment, managing workload variability and integration of newly acquired entities, • Oversee AP processes across multiple ERP systems, ensuring adaptability and consistency as systems evolve, • Support onboarding and knowledge transfer for the permanent hire, if an overlap period is requiredTravel Expectations, • Approximately 25% travel on an ongoing basis, • Up to 50% travel during the first 60 days to visit field offices, including multiple locations across the United StatesRequired Qualifications, • Extensive, hands-on experience in Accounts Payable leadership, • Proven experience managing large, geographically dispersed AP teams (30–40+ employees), • Concur Invoicing experience is required, • Strong background working in M&A-driven environments with exposure to multiple ERP systems, • Demonstrated ability to build structure, define metrics, and improve performance in evolving or underdeveloped AP organizations, • Comfortable stepping into ambiguity, quickly assessing gaps, and executing practical solutionsPreferred Experience, • Interim or contract leadership experience during periods of transition, • Experience stabilizing teams following leadership changes Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $90.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
