Please take a moment to watch our video to learn more about our culture and contributions to our members: youtu.be/hYNdMGLn19A Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Financial Manager/Controller, the Senior Accountant ensures the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements by recording, reviewing, and reconciling financial activity of the assigned fund(s). The role also provides oversight and guidance to Staff Accountant I and II, supporting their professional development and ensuring the accuracy and quality of their work. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: review of other financial statements assigned to Staff Accountants, review of Accounts Payable account coding for accuracy, assist with bank activities, cash flows, review of government filings, prepare journal entries for the month-end close, investment and bank reconciliation reviews, and assist with audits as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Prepare financial statements and provide year-over-year variance analyses with clear, meaningful explanations, • Deliver presentations on financial results, analyses, and findings to key stakeholders and external entities, • Review departmental budget-to-actual reports on a quarterly basis, including analysis and variance explanations, as well as providing valuable insights to department leads and other stakeholders, • Reconcile expenses with department leads and ensuring proper coding accuracy, • Analyze and review all General Ledger activity within accounts, including researching and correcting any variances and identifying potential issues, • Recommend internal control enhancements, and policy/procedure improvements if necessary, • Assist in the preparation of the Annual and Quarterly regulatory filings such as: Form 5500, Form 990, Form 990-T, Form 8955, Form 945, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) filings, • Become a trusted advisor to the accounting partners and manage expectations, • Evaluate current procedures and recommend changes to develop and implement best practice accounting procedures, • Work on developing and maintaining effective and efficient business processes that support operational excellence, • Complete various project-based assignments as needed to implement greater efficiencies, scalability, and controls, • Utilize Financial Management practices from daily operation to forecasting and budgeting of Fund(s), • Manage conflicting deadlines and priorities as assigned. Quickly adapt to changing priorities, managing and communicating clearly deadline risks as new tasks and projects arise, • Perform any other relevant, related or pertinent work or duties as requested or assigned by the Accounting Management Team, Senior Management or their designee Qualifications (Competencies): • Qualifications and Core Competencies:, • 5+ years of experience as an Accountant, • Understand and apply advance knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), • Respect timelines and consistently delivers to complete work projects, • Prioritize workflows effectively and escalate time sensitive matters appropriately, • Consistently seek and apply best practices in accounting policies and procedures, • Identify ways to work more efficiently and effectively while not losing sight of departmental goals, • Ability to follow up with requests and assignments to ensure full and timely completion, • Technical Skills:, • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint, • Ability to present financial information clearly to multiple levels of Management/Trustees, • Ability to translate accounting terminology to understandable language for non-financial stakeholders, • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics F&O (or equivalent Accounting system) preferred, • Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills, • Lead process improvements and encourage continuous learning with staff Soft Skills (Interpersonal Skills): • Maintain strong attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, promoting trust and alignment, • Exhibit a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct, • Ability to think strategically and connect day-to-day work to broader organizational goals, • Demonstrate strong professional judgement, • Build and maintain strong working relationships with staff across all levels and functional backgrounds, • Tailor communication style to effectively meet the needs of others, • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills, • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a professional client-focused orientation mindset, • Contribute effectively both independently and collaborate as a team player, • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering professional growth and accuracy in their work Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
