Baker Responsibilities Include: Ensure profitability by maintaining accurate records of baking operations. Manage supplies and inventory levels effectively. Direct and supervise production staff to uphold product standards. Decorate baked goods with glaze, icing, and toppings for presentation. Assess quality of raw materials prior to baking. Conduct research to develop original recipes. Ensure proper storage of baking utensils. Prepare bakery items according to customer requests using appropriate equipment. Offer product samples to customers to promote new items. Operate equipment (e.g., knives, box cutter, pricing gun) per company guidelines. Communicate effectively with customers, addressing questions and requests promptly. Ensure timely price changes and in-store transfers in the absence of the department manager. Be flexible with work hours to accommodate customer demands, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. High school education or equivalent is required. Previous experience in baking or pastry is preferred, typically ranging from 1 to 3 years. TB Clearance may be required. A Food Handler's Certificate/Card is often required or must be obtained within a specified time frame. Skills: Ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and stand for long periods. Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills. Proficient in reading and accurately following recipes. Flexibility to accommodate customer demands, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Good planning and organizational skills. Basic math and computer skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Creativity and artistic skills for decorating baked goods. Familiarity with professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders, and dough sheeters. Understanding of food safety practices and regulations. Experience: Experience in a bakery or restaurant setting is often required, with specific roles typically necessitating 1-3 years of related work experience. Experience with cake decoration techniques is beneficial. Some positions may require experience in high-volume production environments. Additional Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in safely and effectively operating standard foodservice equipment. Adaptability and decision-making abilities. Strong oral communication skills. Self-motivated with a high energy level. Ability to multi-task and manage various responsibilities simultaneously. Effective planning, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements: High school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of two (2) years of baking experience is preferred. Current SERVSAFE certification or successful completion of a sanitation course within the past year is often required. An Associate's degree in hotel or institutional food preparation is preferred. Current food handler's card and other certifications as required by federal, state, or local law. Baker Requirements: Strong communication, time and resource management, and planning skills. Attention to detail, particularly when performing quality inspections on ingredients and products. Willingness to work independently or collaboratively with team members to solve problems, plan schedules, fulfill orders, and create exceptional baked goods.
