Job Description Job Title: Pharmacist Manager Job Description The Pharmacist Manager leads the day-to-day operations of a high-volume closed-door pharmacy, supervising pharmacists and pharmacy technicians while ensuring accurate, safe, and compliant prescription dispensing. This role combines hands-on clinical work on the pharmacy floor with leadership responsibilities, including workflow design, staff scheduling, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. The Pharmacist Manager plays a key role in maintaining state and federal compliance, supporting staff development, and driving operational efficiency in a long-term care–focused environment. Responsibilities • Supervise staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy operations., • Manage daily production activities to meet prescription delivery schedules and service expectations., • Create, manage, and adjust pharmacist schedules to maintain adequate licensed coverage in line with Board of Pharmacy requirements., • Oversee controlled substance processes and procedures, including CII ordering, inventory control, and dispensing, to ensure full regulatory compliance., • Lead and participate in control auditing activities and monthly quality improvement meetings to enhance safety, accuracy, and efficiency., • Design, implement, and maintain pharmacy workflows and staffing models to support timely and accurate prescription dispensing., • Function as a staff pharmacist and work on the pharmacy floor at least 75% of the time, actively participating in daily dispensing and clinical activities., • Communicate daily with the Director of Pharmacy Operations regarding production status, safety concerns, and compliance issues., • Ensure all pharmacy operations and recordkeeping comply with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and standards., • Oversee the training, onboarding, and integration of newly hired pharmacists to ensure they understand workflows, policies, and compliance requirements., • Assist with staffing and scheduling decisions to maintain required licensed pharmacist coverage at all times., • Maintain USP <797> compliance, including coordinating training, ensuring documentation accuracy, and updating programs and procedures as needed., • Continuously evaluate, refine, and improve workflow processes to enhance operational efficiency, patient safety, and regulatory compliance., • Support pharmacy students by overseeing evaluations, assigning tasks, and guiding their daily learning activities., • Collaborate with other supervisors and functional teams to ensure smooth cross-functional operations and contribute input to performance reviews., • Handle occasional customer relations issues, addressing concerns professionally and ensuring a positive experience for partners and facilities served., • Participate in special projects as assigned, contributing pharmacy expertise to operational or quality initiatives., • Active registration as a pharmacist in the State of Iowa or a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree in the State of Iowa., • State of Iowa Pharmacist License without restrictions, or ability to obtain and pass the Iowa Law Exam with the State of Iowa Pharmacy Board prior to accepting the role if not currently licensed in Iowa., • Pharmacist License in both Iowa and Illinois without restrictions, or willingness to obtain Illinois licensure., • Strong pharmacy practice knowledge, including pharmacology and prescription dispensing in a high-volume environment., • Demonstrated ability to work with high volume script filling while maintaining accuracy and quality., • High attention to detail and strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance., • Experience with inventory management and control within a pharmacy setting., • Customer service skills with the ability to manage occasional customer relations professionally., • Ability to manage and oversee compounding activities in accordance with regulations and standards., • Capability to supervise and mentor pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and students in a clinical and operational environment., • Strong organizational skills with the ability to design and maintain efficient workflows and staffing models., • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree., • Familiarity with USP <797> standards and experience maintaining compliance, including training and documentation., • Experience in a closed-door or long-term care pharmacy setting is beneficial., • Comfort working in a high-output environment with tight delivery schedules., • Ability to participate in and contribute to quality improvement initiatives and meetings., • Experience supporting or precepting pharmacy students is an advantage. This role is based in a closed-door pharmacy that primarily fills prescriptions for nursing home and long-term care residents. The environment focuses on high-volume, script-based work rather than direct retail interactions, allowing the team to concentrate on accuracy, safety, and timely delivery. The Pharmacist Manager works on the pharmacy floor the majority of the time, collaborating closely with pharmacists, technicians, and other functional teams in a professional, production-oriented setting. Typical hours are Monday through Friday with varying 8-hour shifts between 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The position includes an on-call responsibility one night per week until 10:00 p.m., which can be fulfilled remotely when needed. The pharmacist also works every fourth weekend, with Saturday hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday hours from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., including on-call coverage. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $145000.00/yr.
