Job Description: Maxwell IT is seeking a Technical Account Manager (TAM) / Project Engineer — a client-facing technical leader who acts as a fractional IT Manager across multiple SMB clients. This role blends technical engineering, project delivery, and strategic advisory responsibilities. The TAM / Project Engineer serves as the primary technical advisor and project lead for assigned clients. You will guide technological roadmaps, oversee infrastructure health, deliver projects, and ensure clients follow best practices and security standards. This position requires a high level of independence and strong client service and skills. Organizational ability is important to keep track of all tasks, because the job requires a great deal of multi-tasking. Accurate and timely tracking of client work, service calls, and related documentation including timesheets is required. In this position, you will be responsible for acting as the first line of project support for our customers. Under limited supervision, you will assist in the planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of desktops, servers, and networks ranging from basic to complex. You will respond to customer tickets and document troubleshooting steps. This frequently means handling those tickets from creation to completion. You will also visit customers sites, resolving issues and maintaining relationships with a wide variety of customers and personalities. What You’ll Do: Serve as a fractional IT Manager for SMB clients. Lead QBRs, roadmap planning, and technology budgeting. Troubleshoot and resolve issues across servers, networks, endpoints, and cloud platforms. Oversee service desk escalations and ensure timely resolution. Perform onsite visits as needed. Lead IT projects such as M365 migrations, server upgrades, network deployments, and cloud transitions. Create scopes, project plans, and documentation. Develop SME expertise and contribute to Maxwell IT technology standards. Essential Duties: Project Management – All engineers are given projects to manage based on their skill level and trained in our methodology. Account Management – Depending on their level of expertise, our engineers will have client-facing responsibilities and must be able to maintain client relationships. We mentor you to learn our standard of strategic road mapping and project level consulting. Position Responsibilities: Manage the project delivery team’s daily activities as well as the dispatch process of project requests. Drive problem investigations and resolution as required. Design and maintain process documentation for the service delivery team. Interface with appropriate technical personnel for client problems that cannot be resolved effectively. Contribute to the continuity of computer services by providing the necessary technical leadership. Provide accurate reports and metrics to company management on the status and budget of on-going projects and agreements. Ensure quality and profitable services are performed to the agreed SLA. To provide reports on an agreed schedule to Senior Management and clients. Identify trends and develop strategies to support these trends. Responsible for project scheduling, escalation and client satisfaction. Active role in daily management of all project calls. Strong experience with Windows Server, AD/Entra, O365, networking, and virtualization. Project engineering experience from planning to delivery. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to work independently and manage priorities. Bonus Skills: vCIO, TAM, or IT Manager experience. Microsoft, Cisco, or CompTIA certifications. Familiarity with HIPAA, NIST, or CIS frameworks. Education: We are looking for candidates who possess an AA, BA or BS degree, and/or is in the process of completing college. Specialization in computer science or equivalent is preferred.
