Job Summary Position Overview We are currently seeking qualified candidates for an immediate opening to join our team as a lead construction consultant in the New York City Metro. This full-time position is anticipated to be remote, with regular travel to project sites and client locations serving several projects in Manhattan and some requiring state and domestic U.S. travel. The lead construction consultant is accountable for the successful delivery of technology consulting projects during the contract administration phase, leading engagements with minimal oversight. This role verifies that infrastructure, audiovisual systems, and structured cabling installations align with contract documents, design intent, and industry standards. Serving as a link between design and field execution, the construction consultant leads site observation, validation, and commissioning activities; coordinates with AV integrators and contractors; and oversees RFI and submittal workflows to resolve issues early and reduce delivery risk. In addition to project delivery, the role contributes to the development and improvement of internal construction‑phase processes and provides guidance and mentorship to less‑experienced team members. Through disciplined oversight, clear communication, and a hospitality‑forward approach, the role ensures systems are technically sound, operationally ready, and aligned with client expectations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Coordination and Communication AV Integrator Management: Lead coordination with AV integrators and contractors to facilitate installation, testing, and handover of technology systems. Own punch list development, tracking, and issue resolution. Lead AV integrator coordination meetings and provide clear direction, documentation, and follow‑up. RFI and Submittal Management: Lead the receipt, review, and response of RFIs (Requests for Information) and construction‑phase submittals. Engage design and technical team members as needed, ensure technical accuracy and clarity of responses, maintain RFI and Submittal logs, and drive timely resolution and accountability. • Contract Administration Coordination: Serve as the primary point of coordination between design teams, contractors, and project stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain alignment between construction activities, installation execution, and technology goals., • Client & Team Communication: Lead communication of project status, field conditions, risks, and solutions to internal teams and clients. Provide confident technical guidance during construction, testing, and commissioning, and support less‑experienced team members in client‑facing interactions., • Technical Documentation & Reporting: Oversee the preparation and submission of site observation, testing, and commissioning reports. Ensure documentation quality, consistency, and completeness, and maintain accurate records of field conditions, test results, and system performance. Validation and Verification Site Observation & Compliance: Conduct regular site visits to verify infrastructure, AV, and structured cabling installations comply with construction documents and specifications. Document findings, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions. Structured Cabling Observation: Observe and document structured cabling installations, ensuring alignment with design intent and industry standards. Audiovisual Verification: Develop and execute AV test plans and manage validation testing of audiovisual (AV) systems at both offsite and on‑site facilities on behalf of our clients. Carry out comprehensive testing and troubleshooting to confirm system performance and functionality. Verify that installation and operation of technology systems adhere to construction documents and project specifications. Quality Assurance: Review installation practices and completed work for adherence to standards. Support QA of AV and structured cabling installations. Operational readiness support: Support system turnover and initial adoption by assisting with client training sessions, operational handoff activities, and early‑stage issue identification, ensuring technology systems are understood, usable, and ready for day‑one operation. Internal Responsibilities • Team contribution: Contribute to Waveguide’s internal knowledge base and consulting community by sharing lessons learned, best practices, and technical insights from construction‑phase engagements., • Process ownership and improvement: Take ownership of construction‑phase consulting workflows, proactively identifying opportunities to improve observation practices, testing rigor, documentation quality, and coordination efficiency. Challenge assumptions and recommend improvements that increase consistency, reduce rework, and strengthen delivery outcomes., • Professional Growth: Pursue ongoing professional development and contribute to the organization’s knowledge base as a subject matter expert (SME)., • Travel: This position requires frequent local and domestic and occasionally international travel, sometimes up to 60% (combination of local day trips and some domestic and international travel), to perform site observations, attend coordination meetings, and support project delivery., • Responsible Use of AI Tools: Ensure responsible use of web-based AI tools, with a strong understanding of and adherence to data protection and privacy best practices.QUALIFICATIONS, • 6 to 8 years of relevant professional experience managing professional AV/IT projects, preferably as an independent consultant, • Four-year or higher degree in a relevant technical field (BSEE), • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) professional certification, CTS-I preferred, • Demonstrated construction-phase technology consulting experience, including RFI responses, site observations, field issue identification, contract administration, and clear documentation such as observation and commissioning reports, issue logs, and test results., • Proven ability to develop and execute audiovisual system test plans, commission performance, and resolve field issues while balancing design intent, constructability, schedule, and client expectations., • Experience overseeing AV integrators and specialty contractors, reviewing installation quality, managing punch lists, and coordinating during testing and turnover, with strong knowledge of industry standards and best practices (AVIXA, BICSI, TIA, manufacturer guidelines)., • Comfort operating in client-facing construction and commissioning environments, delivering technical guidance with professionalism, confidence, and a hospitality-forward mindset., • Suitable environment for audio and video calls, remote work anticipated when not traveling Required Core Competencies • Strong computer skills with proficiency in all MS Office applications, • Advanced proficiency in MS Suite, Bluebeam, and relevant AI tools., • Ability to perform basic mathematics in a business environment, • Strong understanding of commercial/institutional technology applications and operations and their integration within building design and construction environments, including audio systems, video display technology, unified communications, digital signage, networked signal distribution, complex automation and control, and typical building systems such as HVAC, electrical, lighting, building controls, and security., • Commitment to relevant ongoing professional development and technical training, • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables and shift priorities as necessary, • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form Click here to Learn More about the Compass Story Compass Group is an equal opportunity employer.
