Position Overview: The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) serves as a frontline medical and operational staff member responsible for direct guest interaction, health monitoring, emergency medical response, and operational support across all shelter areas. This position ensures guest safety, health, and wellbeing through constant presence, proactive medical assessment, trauma-informed engagement, and coordination with leadership, security, local emergency medical services, and healthcare providers. The EMT maintains a visible, supportive medical presence throughout the facility 24/7 while operating under the guidance of a licensed Kentucky medical professional. Please note: At this time, this is a 5-month contract with no benefits. There may be an opportunity for contract extension after the 5-month period ends. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Emergency Medical Services & Health Monitoring • Conduct medical triage and health assessments for shelter guests as needed, • Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation, • Administer first aid and basic life support in accordance with EMT scope of practice, • Perform CPR and use automated external defibrillators (AED) when necessary, • Serve as liaison with local EMS, fire departments, and emergency services, • Coordinate emergency medical responses and facilitate ambulance transport when needed, • Provide direct, respectful communication with guests regarding health concerns, medical schedules, and wellness resources, • Maintain constant visibility throughout assigned areas to monitor guest safety, health status, and facility security, • Conduct regular walk-throughs of dormitories, common areas, restrooms, and outdoor spaces with attention to medical and safety concerns, • Assist with facility setup and breakdown for meals, programming, and special events, • Support cleaning and sanitation efforts to maintain a clean, safe, healthy environment, • Coordinate with Shelter Operations Supervisors and other staff to ensure smooth operations, • Communicate with third-party service providers, case managers, healthcare providers, and community partners, • Relay important medical and operational information between shifts during staff briefings, • Maintain radio or phone communication with other staff members throughout shifts, • Move medical equipment, supplies, and other items as needed to support shelter operations, • Current Kentucky EMT certification or national EMT certification with Kentucky reciprocity eligibility, • Proficiency in vital signs assessment, patient assessment, and emergency medical procedures, • Strong clinical judgment and ability to recognize medical emergencies, • Knowledge of infection control protocols and universal precautions, • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations, • Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills, • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress and emergency situations, • Competency with medical documentation and electronic health records (preferred), • Physical ability to stand, walk, and be on feet for extended periods, • Ability to lift and move supplies, equipment, and assist patients up to 50 pounds, • High school diploma or equivalent required, • Current EMT-Basic certification or higher (EMT-Advanced, Paramedic) from a Kentucky-approved program or eligible for Kentucky reciprocity, • Current CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required, • Current First Aid certification required, • Previous experience working in emergency medical services, hospital settings, or emergency shelters preferred, • Experience working with homeless populations, individuals in crisis, or vulnerable populations preferred, • Crisis intervention or de-escalation training preferred, • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident for at least the past five (5) years to comply with federal regulations, • Must be available to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis, • Complete a rigorous culture and competency testing process., • Must be at least 21 years of age., • A valid US Driver’s license., • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the following screening:, • Credit check (if applicable and where permitted by law), • Motor vehicle Must be able to speak, read, and write in English, • Must possess reliable transportation and valid driver's license, • Must show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S., • Internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements., • Complete a Drug Test., • Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees., • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 10% of the time., • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 10% of the time., • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type and use a telephone system 100% of the time., • Sitting: Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time, • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12 hours per shift), • Ability to lift, carry, and move medical equipment, supplies, and assist patients up to 50 pounds, • Ability to perform CPR and physically demanding emergency medical procedures, • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions, • Capability to work in varied environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor, temperature variations), • Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies throughout the facility, • Visual and auditory
