The company serves well-known manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Navistar, and Whirlpool, delivering high-quality fabricated and finished components. AFI uses advanced laser cutting, metal forming, welding, media blasting, and powder coating technologies to handle a wide range of materials and part sizes. Its automated powder coating line and large batch oven enable durable finishes that meet demanding performance standards, including rigorous salt-spray requirements. AFI also offers pad printing and screen printing services, providing customers with comprehensive metal fabrication and finishing solutions. Role Description The Fabricating Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Piqua, OH. This role is responsible for designing and improving sheet metal and fabricated components, creating and updating CAD models and drawings, and supporting production with manufacturable designs and process improvements. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with fabrication, welding, and coating teams to optimize part flow, resolving engineering issues on the shop floor, and participating in continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives. The Fabricating Engineer will also assist with new product introductions, support R&D efforts for new processes and materials, and manage small engineering projects from concept through production release. Qualifications • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering with hands-on experience in fabrication or manufacturing environments., • Proficiency in Machine Design and an understanding of sheet metal design and forming principles., • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for creating models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation., • Background in Project Management, including planning, coordinating, and tracking engineering activities., • Exposure to Research and Development (R&D), process improvement, or new product introduction., • Knowledge of welding, metal forming, and powder coating processes is highly beneficial., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements., • Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams on the shop floor and in the office., • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in fabrication engineering considered., • Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement.
