Job Summary: The VP - Controller is a senior finance leader responsible for protecting the financial integrity of a $1B, multi-entity transportation organization operating across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role oversees all accounting operations, financial reporting, tax compliance, cost accounting, and internal controls. The VP - Controller ensures accurate and timely GAAP-compliant reporting, strengthens financial processes, and provides executive-level insight into performance, cost structure, and cash flow. This leader will build and develop a high-performing accounting team while driving operational discipline and continuous improvement across a complex, multi-location enterprise. Duties/Responsibilities: • Serve as a key strategic partner to the CFO and executive leadership team., • Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring financial integrity across a $1B organization., • Lead enterprise financial planning initiatives, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis., • Provide actionable financial insights to support informed executive decision-making., • Prepare and examine accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP., • Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes., • Oversee tax compliance and coordinate with external tax advisors., • Maintain and administer all corporate financial records, including books of original entry, supporting schedules, and subsidiary ledgers., • Ensure audit readiness and maintain strong internal controls., • Establish and maintain corporate cost accounting standards., • Lead cost reduction and cost containment initiatives., • Conduct cost and cash flow analysis to optimize operational efficiency., • Support business analysis and enterprise performance reporting., • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, HR, IT, and other departments. Required Skills/Abilities: • Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting., • Proven experience leading cost reduction and cost containment initiatives., • Strong cost accounting and cash flow analysis capabilities., • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)., • Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic thinking skills., • Ability to communicate effectively at the executive level (oral, written, and presentation)., • High degree of integrity and professional judgment. Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required., • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required., • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including senior-level leadership responsibility., • Strong experience with P&L management and balance sheet oversight., • Experience working in a publicly traded company environment preferred., • Multi-entity and/or multi-location operational accounting experience preferred., • Experience with transportation industry software (Oracle preferred). Supervisory Responsibilities: • Lead a team of 8 direct reports and 15+ indirect team members across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax, and Accounting., • Develop and maintain an effective department through selection, training, performance management, compensation planning, and talent development., • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travel: 0% Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office and computer equipment.
