Job Description The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, maintaining, and troubleshooting internal and customer-facing enterprise networks. This individual serves as a subject-matter expert (SME) in network management, routing and switching, firewalls, and multi-site deployments, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable environments for our clients. In addition to providing deep technical expertise, the Network Engineer builds and maintains strong, positive relationships with clients and internal team members. This role reports to the Senior Network Engineer, collaborates closely with other Network Engineers, and works with IT Support specialists to configure, test, and document client networks. It is a hands-on, client-facing role ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex network challenges, mentoring others, and shaping easy-to-manage, centralized network environments for a diverse client base. Key Responsibilities Network Design, Operations & Support • Support multiple small and large network and Wi‐Fi projects simultaneously for internal and customer environments., • Design and implement network and Wi‐Fi solutions across LAN, WAN, Internet connectivity, firewalls, and related network infrastructure in multi-site environments., • Maintain and optimize clients’ network and Wi‐Fi environments by analyzing, planning, testing, and implementing changes to improve performance, reliability, and security, including administration of LAN, WAN, firewalls, WAPs, Internet connectivity, and core network hardware., • Ensure that the design and implementation of new network and Wi‐Fi projects account for all potential impacts on existing infrastructure., • Implement and maintain network security best practices, including firewall policies, segmentation, and secure remote access in accordance with industry standards and company guidelines., • Assist in full lifecycle network deployments, from assessment and architecture through implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance., • Monitor network performance, identify issues, and recommend and implement improvements to optimize throughput, stability, and user experience., • Provide exceptional technical support to end-users, promptly addressing hardware, software, and network-related issues in a professional and effective manner., • Serve as an escalation point for team members and clients experiencing complex network or Wi‐Fi issues, ensuring successful resolution and clear communication., • Analyze existing technology-related pain points and provide effective, budget-conscious recommendations and reasoning to client leadership teams., • Document, track, and follow up on support issues to ensure timely resolution and maintain a clear record of work performed., • Maintain clear, accurate, and current documentation of networks, including processes, procedures, knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, and change logs., • Provide detailed, accurate, and timely reporting of work completed and recommendations as part of client deliverables., • Identify opportunities, create proposals, and recommend solutions to existing and prospective clients in line with the goal of easy-to-manage, centralized networks., • Work closely with the IT Team to develop, test, document, and configure clients’ networks in accordance with established standards and best practices., • Provide thought leadership in network architecture and design through guidance, training, and documentation to elevate the team’s overall network and Wi‐Fi skillset., • Manage relationships with third-party providers (e.g., Cisco / Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti, Ekahau, Tailscale, and others), securing preferred status and pricing and coordinating renewals to ensure continuity of service., • Provide guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to IT Support team members on network design, operations, and troubleshooting best practices., • Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language to non-technical stakeholders and end users., • Foster ego-less, respectful, and solutions-oriented communication with clients, vendors, and teammates. Qualifications: Core Experience • 3+ years of hands-on experience in network design and deployment in small-to-mid-sized enterprises or multi-site environments., • 5+ years of experience owning and administering core network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, firewalls, VPN, Internet connectivity) in production environments., • Proven track record leading full lifecycle network (and Wi‐Fi) projects, from assessment and architecture through implementation, optimization, documentation, and ongoing support., • Demonstrated experience serving as an escalation point for complex network and security issues, driving root-cause analysis and long-term remediation., • Experience designing and implementing secure, highly available, and scalable network solutions that align with business and security requirements., • Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, methodical approach to diagnosing multi-layer (network, systems, application) issues., • Proven ability to lead and coordinate multiple complex, competing initiatives and project workstreams in a fast-paced, client-facing environment., • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing, switching) and common network services., • Strong knowledge of firewall platforms and security concepts, including segmentation, VPNs, and secure remote access., • Familiarity with Wi‐Fi and RF concepts sufficient to collaborate effectively with wireless specialists (SSIDs, WPA2/WPA3, basic RF principles)., • Experience with network monitoring, logging, and diagnostic tools (e.g., SNMP-based monitors, flow analysis, log aggregators, packet capture). Experience with some or all of the following is a plus: • Cisco Meraki Dashboard and Meraki firewalls, • Ubiquiti UniFi, • Aruba networks, • Brocade ICX switches, • WatchGuard firewalls, • Palo Alto firewalls, • Dark fiber and related connectivity solutions, • CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) or equivalent foundational wireless certification, • Cisco CCNA or CCNP Enterprise (Wireless / Enterprise emphasis) for broader enterprise networking and controller-based Wi‐Fi, • CompTIA Network+ for validated multi‐vendor networking fundamentals, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail., • Ability to explain complex technical ideas in clear, accessible language to non‐technical audiences., • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality technical documentation, including reports, diagrams, and client-facing deliverables., • Dedication to thorough research and follow-through when faced with unfamiliar technical challenges., • Proactive, can‐do attitude with a strong sense of ownership, care, and urgency., • Passion for helping others and creating an outstanding end-user experience., • Team-oriented mindset with an ego‐less, collaborative approach to support and problem-solving., • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
