Job Description The Wireless Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, maintaining, and troubleshooting internal and customer-facing enterprise networks, with a primary focus on wireless solutions. This individual serves as a subject-matter expert (SME) in wireless network design, RF principles, predictive surveys, and post-deployment validation, following industry best practices for high-density Wi‐Fi environments. In addition to providing deep technical expertise, the Wireless Network Engineer will build and maintain strong, positive relationships with clients and internal team members. This role reports to the Senior Network Engineer, collaborates closely with other Network Engineers, and supports IT Support team members in configuring, testing, and documenting clients’ wireless networks. It is a hands-on, client-facing role ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex wireless challenges, mentoring others, and shaping scalable, easy-to-manage network environments for a diverse client base. Key Responsibilities: Wireless Network Design, Operations & Support • Design and implement wireless network solutions, including predictive surveys and post‐deployment validation for high‐density Wi‐Fi environments., • Maintain and optimize clients’ network and Wi‐Fi environments, including LAN, WAN, firewalls, WAPs, Internet connectivity, and core network hardware., • Analyze, plan, and test wireless environments across 802.11 standards (a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be), including WLANs, WAPs, wireless controllers, and RF management., • Implement wireless security best practices, including 802.1X/RADIUS authentication, WPA2/WPA3‐Enterprise encryption, and guest network segmentation., • Assist in full lifecycle wireless network deployments, from assessment and design through implementation, optimization, and ongoing support., • Monitor network performance, identify issues, and recommend and implement improvements to optimize reliability, capacity, and user experience., • Provide exceptional technical support to end‐users, resolving wireless and network‐related hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely and professional manner., • Serve as an escalation point for team members and clients experiencing complex network or Wi‐Fi issues, ensuring successful resolution and clear communication., • Diligently document, track, and follow up on support issues to ensure timely resolution., • Work closely with the IT team to develop, test, document, and configure clients’ networks in line with Hi! Tech standards for an easy‐to‐manage, centralized network environment., • Assist with physical deployment tasks, including racking network hardware, mounting wireless access points, and labeling all cables for future identification in a clean, organized manner., • Actively research and evaluate new wireless technologies, tools, and features to improve network effectiveness, reliability, and efficiency., • Review upcoming release notes for applicable wireless network hardware (e.g., access points, controllers) and software, and highlight and disseminate relevant updates to clients and teammates., • Identify opportunities and propose network and wireless solutions to existing and prospective clients aligned with Hi! Tech’s architectural standards and business goals., • Deliver detailed, accurate, and timely client deliverables, including assessment reports, gap analyses, and recommended improvements to wireless and network environments., • Maintain clear, accurate, and current documentation of client networks, including diagrams, configurations, processes, procedures, knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, and change logs., • Create and maintain technical drawings, including AP placement maps and rack elevations, for new and updated wireless deployments., • Develop low‐voltage plans, including detailed spreadsheets listing each cable drop for access points and contributing to overhead drawings illustrating appropriate cable pathways., • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to IT team members on wireless network analysis, RF troubleshooting techniques, and best practices., • Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language for non‐technical stakeholders and end‐users., • Foster strong, positive relationships with clients, vendors, and teammates through ego‐less, respectful, and solutions‐oriented communication. Qualifications: Core Experience • 3+ years of hands-on network architecture, design, and deployment in enterprise environments., • 5+ years of experience in general network management, firewalls, and support., • Proven experience delivering full lifecycle wireless network deployments, from assessment and design through implementation, optimization, and support., • Strong troubleshooting skills and a logical, methodical approach to problem-solving., • Deep knowledge of 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be standards and wireless network architecture., • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs) and core wireless concepts (RF principles, SSIDs, WPA2/WPA3)., • Familiarity with network security principles, particularly in a wireless context (e.g., RADIUS/802.1X, guest network isolation, segmentation)., • Experience with wireless packet capture and analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, AirPCAP)., • Experience with wireless troubleshooting and monitoring tools (e.g., Wi‐Fi analyzers, packet capture utilities). Experience with some or all of the following is a plus: • Ekahau Suite, • Cisco Meraki Dashboard and Meraki firewalls, • Ubiquiti UniFi, • Aruba Central and Aruba wireless access points, • Brocade ICX switches, • WatchGuard firewalls, • Palo Alto firewalls, • CWDP (Certified Wireless Design Professional) or similar advanced Wi‐Fi design credential, • Ekahau Certified Survey Engineer (ECSE) or comparable wireless design/survey certification, • CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator), • CompTIA Network+, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail., • Ability to explain complex technical ideas in clear, accessible language to non‐technical audiences., • Demonstrated ability to produce high‐quality technical documentation, including reports, diagrams, and client‐facing deliverables., • Dedication to thorough research and follow-through when faced with unfamiliar technical challenges., • Proactive, can‐do attitude with a strong sense of ownership, care, and urgency., • Passion for helping others and creating an outstanding end‐user experience., • Team‐oriented mindset with an ego‐less, collaborative approach to support and problem-solving., • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
