About the Role: The Senior Software Engineer is a thought leader in a small team focused on the design and delivery of robust software platforms that support Bright Uro's wireless sensing systems for urology. Working independently and supporting more junior staff, this role focuses on advancing feasibility into reliable, scalable solutions while ensuring alignment with regulatory, clinical, and cross-functional needs. The engineer will contribute across the software lifecycle, from architecture and security to deployment and integration, enabling innovative products that improve patient care. At this stage, we are a small team that anticipates growing quickly in 2026. This is a local role, working at least 2 days per week in-person at our Irvine, CA office. Duties and Responsibilities: • Design, evaluate, and implement full stack software including mobile, web, and cloud backend, • Work closely with team leaders to develop DevOps best practices: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, observability, incident response, • Build and evolve reliable, secure, and scalable services (REST/GraphQL/microservices), • Own technical design and implementation through testing, rollout, and ongoing support; document and maintain SDLC artifacts (design docs, traceability matrices, processes) to align with QMS and support regulatory submissions, • Deploy and operate services; we use AWS/Azure/GCP using Docker/Kubernetes, • Drive security-by-design: secrets management, least privilege, vulnerability remediation, secure coding, • Integrate and evaluate ML models, • Oversee the development of testing strategies (Unit/Integration) and Design Verification protocols to verify software/firmware functionality post-acquisition, • Determine automation needs for lab testing and implement software to facilitate testing and test data management, • Support software/firmware testing, debugging, and verification efforts using tools such as unit testing frameworks, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations, and automated test environments, • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, systems engineers, quality, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, and PMO to ensure seamless device integration, • Lead or participate in code reviews and design reviews, • Document decisions and build reusable components, templates, and patterns, • Strong coding and computer science fundamentals including object-oriented development, • Front‑end development with technologies such as React/TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind, or Vue/Angular, • Back‑end development with technologies such as Node.js/TypeScript, Python/FastApi, C# .NET, Go, or Java, • APIs: REST, GraphQL, or WebSockets, • Database development: PostgreSQL/MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, Kafka, or equivalent, • DevOps: GitHub Actions/GitLab CI/CircleCI, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, • Cloud: AWS (ECS/EKS/Lambda/RDS/S3/CloudWatch) or GCP/Azure equivalent, • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to contribute technically to and work within cross-functional team environments, • Strong organizational, multitasking, and documentation skills, with a high level of attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving, • High personal/professional integrity, trustworthiness, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently., • Ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment and maintain a results-oriented, positive, “can-do” attitude and ability to work well under pressure, • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science. Related degrees such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering etc will be considered with strong understanding of CS principles, • Angular/Dart or Flutter/Dart development, • Kubernetes (EKS/GKE/AKS) and service mesh (Istio/Linkerd), • Microservices, CQRS/event sourcing, or serverless architectures, • Work experience at a startup or similar early-stage company, • Medical device development experience; this is a highly-regulated industry and if you're not used to the pace and red tape of getting devices approved, there will be a learning curve, • Microservice-based architecture design and development of full-stack applications in an FDA-regulated environment or other regulated industry, • IaC: Terraform, • Bluetooth development, • Firmware development
