Job DescriptionGeneral Operator - This position covers a variety of skill sets within the production plant, creeling and weaving carbon fiber using machinery and equipment. General Assignments • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor and/or safety coordinator. • Understands quality policy and his/her role in producing a quality product. • Reports daily to his/her assigned area on time. • Achieves required efficiencies as defined by task assigned. • Maintains required traceability of AS91000. • Completes/Maintains required paperwork/labeling for assigned task. • Produces high quality products. • Maintains a clean and tidy work area, performs required cleaning at end of shifts. Tasks and Work Activities - Set Up/Entering • The set-up process includes cleaning and wiping down the spindles on the creel. • Take spools of yarn out of the box and place it on the creel spindles. The spools of yarn weigh approximately 1- 4 lbs. and can go up to 20lbs. This process takes 1- 6 hours and requires bending (approximately 25%), reaching (approximately 15%) over shoulders and lifting. • Feed the ends of yarn through the harness and reed. This requires reaching and bending. This process takes 4 - 6 hours during the work shift. • Place hand weights on the ends of yarn on the creel, perform visual inspections of work area and finish daily set up. • Transferring each end of yarn to be drawn through the harness and reed in a predetermined pattern. • Takedown of creel will require pulling (approximately 20-30lbs) off the remaining yarn of the spools and removing the empty spool from the cap. Tasks and Work Activities - Weaving • Perform daily check of the loom to assure that it is in proper running condition. • Start the loom and watch the weaving process for the entirety of the shift. The weaver will watch for broken ends, mis- picks, and other defects. This requires standing/walking for an 8-hour shift. • Change the fill yarn (packages) frequently or as needed, this will require to walk (approximately 30%) to get packages out of the box • When the roll of fabric reaches the correct yardage, the weaver must take the finished roll of fabric off the loom and restart a new roll, which requires kneeling to tape roll to core. • Once the roll is on the cart, will need to remove the shaft from core, this requires pulling and transferring the shaft in to a new core. • Doffing cart will require to push or pull, which weights approximately 50 -200 lbs. to the rack area. • Perform visual inspections of work area and finished products. • Communicating with Supervisors - Providing necessary information to supervisors regarding the condition of the loom and the quality of the fabric being produced Knowledge and Skills • Familiarity with a Manufacturing environment • Must demonstrate oral, written, and reading comprehension of the English language. • Critical Thinking- Using logic and reasoning to identify the solution to problems. • Communication with others to convey information effectively. • Must possess basic math skills. • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and able to collaborate in a team environment to complete objectives on time. • Must be reliable, adaptable, and open to change. • Must have reliable transportation. • Must be available to work Overtime and open to rotating weekend shifts as assigned. Work Environment/ Physical Requirements • Indoors - This position is located in the Production Plant; the noise level is moderate. • The typical workday is a combination standing and walking for the entirety of the shift. • Throughout the day employee must be able to bend, twist, climb step stools and lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 200lbs (with assistance at all times) Education • High School Diploma or equivalent
