Job DescriptionJob Title: Refrigeration Technician Job Description As a Refrigeration Technician, you will be responsible for starting and operating required refrigeration compressors and blast freezers for daily production. You will evaluate operating parameters of the refrigeration plant and make necessary adjustments. Your role involves operating, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing refrigeration equipment along with associated valves, piping, and instrumentation. Responsibilities • Start and operate refrigeration compressors and blast freezers for daily production., • Evaluate and adjust operating parameters of the refrigeration plant., • Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration equipment., • Read electrical diagrams to troubleshoot and solve electrical issues., • Document plant activities in the Engine Room Log Book and log equipment parameters., • Monitor and maintain refrigeration systems., • Perform periodic tests of the Ammonia Detection Alarm System., • Read and interpret technical literature, drawings, prints, and diagrams., • Request materials and supplies and manage their storage., • Monitor water chemistry of evaporative condenser units and adjust chemical feeds., • Coordinate and assist outside contractors servicing refrigeration system equipment., • Perform additional duties as assigned.Essential Skills, • Experience with Refrigeration, Troubleshooting, HVAC, and Refrigeration Equipment., • Knowledge in Air Conditioning, Compressors, Boilers, and Ammonia Refrigeration., • Experience with Preventive Maintenance and PLCs., • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Ammonia experience is not required but is a plus., • Ammonia Certification or experience preferred., • High School Diploma required., • Basic Math Skills.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a night shift position from 10pm to 7am, with initial training on day shifts for 3-6 months. The work environment includes exposure to loud noise, food grade dust, odors, moving machinery, and extreme weather conditions. The plant contains allergens such as fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk, and coconut. Cold storage conditions are also present. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, Virginia. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
