Job Description Our organization is in search of a Unit Chief for the Co-Occurring Disorders Inpatient Service, as well as a Medical Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and an Outpatient Medical Director. We are looking for a Unit Chief psychiatrist who has completed an addiction psychiatry fellowship or possesses relevant experience in treating substance use disorders. This role is part of a newly established, community-focused facility dedicated to behavioral health, integrating mental health, substance abuse treatment, physical health, and social services. Situated on the Lower East Side, our Behavioral Health Center offers avenues for leadership, professional growth, teaching, and research within the Department of Psychiatry. The Icahn School of Medicine at our institution is seeking a leader with an academic focus to take on the role of Medical Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at our hospital campus. Our Psychiatry Department is among the largest behavioral health programs in New York City, featuring exceptional clinical, research, and educational initiatives. The Medical Director will oversee all clinical operations at this campus, which also hosts a Psychiatry residency program and various subspecialty fellowships. The Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine is a dynamic community of clinicians, researchers, educators, and trainees dedicated to uncovering the causes of mental illness and substance use disorders, as well as improving treatment options. We are ranked #6 nationally in NIH funding and recognized as one of the top regional hospital departments by U.S. News & World Report. Our Behavioral Health service line includes clinical services at Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West, and Mount Sinai Queens. Key Responsibilities for the Co-Occurring Disorders Inpatient Service: • Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary academic inpatient psychiatry team, which includes psychiatrists, residents, psychologists, nursing staff, social workers, counselors, and occupational therapists., • Engage in the assessment and treatment of adult patients experiencing acute psychiatric conditions requiring inpatient care., • Provide clinical oversight for psychiatry residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees within the inpatient service., • Participate in educational initiatives, including lectures and case conferences organized by the Department of Psychiatry., • Work collaboratively with training program directors on both administrative and clinical responsibilities., • Partner with departmental and organizational leadership to ensure the provision of high-quality and safe care., • Assess the training needs of clinical staff and implement strategies for quality improvement., • Ensure thorough and timely documentation of clinical activities., • Contribute to maintaining regulatory compliance and readiness for ongoing accreditation., • Exemplify professionalism, high-quality patient care, educational excellence, and a scholarly approach to work., • Foster an environment that encourages respectful dialogue., • Optionally conduct a faculty practice under the auspices of the Faculty Practice if desired.Clinical/Technical/Service Duties:, • Supervise the activities of assigned residents or fellows; review and validate their documentation while providing direct patient care., • Sign medical records and related patient care documents as mandated by regulations., • Collaborate with healthcare professionals across various disciplines and locations for coordinated patient care and transfer approvals., • Engage in the peer review process., • Attend departmental meetings., • Participate in direct patient care activities as outlined in the delineation of privileges., • Demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other criteria relevant to the patient population served., • Contribute to departmental Quality and Safety initiatives., • These responsibilities may be adjusted periodically by the Chair/Director based on institutional needs.Qualifications:, • Board certified or board eligible Psychiatrist., • Completion of an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship (preferred) or experience in evaluating and treating individuals with substance use disorders., • Possession of a valid NYS medical license., • Strong clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills are essential., • Exceptional teaching abilities., • A collaborative and proactive approach, demonstrating a commitment to high-quality, cost-effective healthcare., • A robust work ethic and a desire to contribute to a team-oriented, performance-driven department.
