Job DescriptionInsurance Follow-Up Representative – Medical Billing & Claims Specialist Tampa FL, 33618 Job Type: Full-Time | On-site Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm Pay: $18-$21/hr | Based on experience Join a growing healthcare team as an Insurance Follow-Up Representative (also known as an Insurance Customer Service Specialist) and play a vital role in resolving medical billing issues, securing insurance payments, and supporting patients with account inquiries. This position is ideal for professionals with experience in medical billing, insurance claims follow-up, and healthcare customer service. Key Responsibilities Review outstanding patient account balances and determine appropriate follow-up actions Contact insurance carriers and/or patients to verify eligibility and payment status Analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to understand denials, coverage, and billing modifications Submit appeals for denied claims and track resolution progress Request billing adjustments in accordance with federal, state, and contractual guidelines Update insurance information and resolve discrepancies Answer inbound calls from patients and insurance companies professionally and accurately Assist with Accounts Receivable (AR) projects and support training of new hires Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with updated procedures Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum 3 years of experience in a medical business office, billing, or insurance follow-up Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer systems Strong understanding of medical billing processes, insurance coverage, and EOBs Excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Certification as a Procedural Coder is a plus but not required Physical & Work Environment Office-based role in a call center or medical billing environment Requires sitting, bending, stretching, and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs Manual dexterity to operate phones, computers, copiers, and fax machines Extended computer use with repetitive motion may be required Frequent interaction with management, staff, and vendors Top Skills for Success Medical billing and insurance claims resolution Denial management and appeals processing Patient communication and customer service Data entry and spreadsheet management HIPAA compliance and PHI handling Problem-solving and multitasking in a dynamic setting Apply today to join a mission-driven team focused on delivering accurate, timely, and compassionate support to patients and providers.
