Position Overview AKIVA is building a qualified bench of CT Technologists to perform computed tomography examinations for the Veterans served by the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. This labor category aligns with the VA ICSP Diagnostic Radiologic Technician definition (OPM series GS-0647) and is scoped specifically to the CT modality. Work is performed in accordance with VA policy, ACR CT Accreditation Program requirements, ALARA and Image Gently/Image Wisely principles, Joint Commission standards, 42 CFR Part 75 credentialing, and applicable California Department of Public Health Radiologic Health Branch regulations. Key Responsibilities Perform routine and advanced CT examinations across neuro, chest, abdomen/pelvis, MSK, CTA/CTV, cardiac, perfusion, and trauma protocols Prepare and position patients, verify identity using two identifiers, explain procedures, and obtain informed consent when applicable Operate CT scanners safely, applying ALARA, dose-modulation, iterative reconstruction, and pediatric/size-based protocol selection Administer iodinated contrast media and oral contrast within scope of practice and facility policy; screen renal function (eGFR) and allergy history, and monitor for adverse reactions, extravasation, and contrast-induced events Operate and troubleshoot power injectors and bolus-tracking systems; verify injector parameters before each study Perform 3D reconstructions, multi-planar reformats, CTA post-processing, and calcium scoring as credentialed Capture, transmit, and archive images and study metadata through VA PACS, the Radiology Information System (RIS), CPRS, and VistA Imaging Support scheduling, order reconciliation, and patient-flow coordination with Medical Support Assistants, nursing, and referring providers Record and report dose metrics (DLP, CTDIvol) per ACR CT Dose Index Registry and VA dose-monitoring expectations Perform daily QA (water phantom, noise, CT number accuracy, laser alignment) and flag equipment malfunctions through Biomedical Engineering Participate in ACR CT accreditation cycles, quality improvement, and peer review as requested Deliver patient-centered, Veteran-focused care with cultural humility and sensitivity to service-connected conditions Required Qualifications Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months (or equivalent) in a post-high-school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or another Department of Educationrecognized accreditor (consistent with 42 CFR Part 75 credentialing) Active ARRT(R) registration plus ARRT(CT) post-primary certification, in good standing Active California Department of Public Health Radiologic Health Branch (CRT) permit with Fluoroscopy and/or CT certification as required by assignment Minimum of one (1) year of hospital or outpatient CT clinical experience Demonstrated proficiency with PACS, RIS, and CT acquisition/3D post-processing workstations (Siemens, GE, Canon, Philips, or equivalent) Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing through VetPro and a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential Ability to pass a federal background investigation (minimum Tier 1 / NACI) and meet all VA immunization, TB screening, and occupational health requirements Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a patient-centered orientation Must be authorized to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications Prior experience at a VA Medical Center, DoD Military Treatment Facility, or Indian Health Service facility Multi-modality ARRT certification (for example ARRT(R)(CT)(MR)) Experience with cardiac CT/coronary CTA, CT perfusion, dual-energy CT, or CT-guided interventional procedures Experience with CPRS, VistA Imaging, or Cerner Millennium Experience supporting ACR CT accreditation cycles, dose-registry reporting, or Joint Commission readiness Bilingual ability in Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or Korean Veteran status (AKIVA applies a Veteran hiring preference consistent with federal law) Two or more years of dedicated CT experience Tools, Technologies & Frameworks Modality: CT, CTA/CTV, Cardiac CT, CT Perfusion, Dual-Energy CT, CT-guided Interventions | OEMs: Siemens, GE, Canon, Philips | Imaging Systems: VA PACS, RIS, CPRS, VistA Imaging, Cerner Millennium | Dose & Accreditation: ALARA, Image Gently / Image Wisely, ACR CT Accreditation, ACR CT Dose Index Registry, Joint Commission, 42 CFR Part 75 | Credentialing: VetPro, PIV, BLS, ARRT(R)(CT), California CRT | Productivity: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams What AKIVA Offers Professional development and skill-building opportunities Supportive management team with Veteran-owned company values Opportunity to work on impactful public sector engagements Long-term contract engagement with potential for extension AI productivity tools and training provided at no cost to employees Comprehensive Benefits Package 401(k) with generous company match Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Short-Term & Long-Term Disability Insurance Paid Time Off (PTO) Profit Sharing Join Our AI Innovation Network Interested in staying connected with AKIVA's AI initiatives, research, and opportunities?
