Position Overview The General Manager, Retail at Artists & Fleas is responsible for proliferating, enhancing and operating a best-in-class market experience. This leadership role regularly collaborates cross-functionally within the organization, but the heart and soul of it lies in the motivation of, and inspiration to our Community Managers and merchant community. The GM will ensure our team is integrated into the merchant community and customer experience, operating with passion, care, and precision. Market & Operational Leadership • Oversee daily market operations across locations, including staffing, scheduling, opening/closing, and on-the-ground execution., • Maintain high standards of hospitality, ensuring exceptional guest and merchant experience., • Monitor sales, traffic, vendor performance, and customer engagement to optimize market vitality., • Manage facilities, cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and load-in/load-out logistics. Market & Operational Leadership • Build strong relationships with makers, artists, designers, and vintage curators., • Lead merchant onboarding, space allocation, contracts, compliance, and ongoing support., • Act as the primary contact for merchant needs, feedback, and escalations., • Support merchant success through coaching, communication, and performance insights. People Leadership & Culture Building • Recruit, train, mentor, and manage Community Managers and other staff., • Foster a culture aligned with the organization’s values: creativity, collaboration, hospitality, entrepreneurial spirit., • Lead hospitality and community engagement trainings (new and ongoing) for Community Mangers, • Ensure team alignment around operational standards, service expectations, and brand consistency. Strategy, Analysis & Brand Stewardship • Identify, develop, and implement process improvements, SOPs, safety standards, and operational guidelines., • Analyze market performance data to inform decision-making, vendor selection, and profitability optimization., • Maintain consistent visual merchandising, signage, and overall brand expression across markets. About You • You're a seasoned pro with 5+ years of progressive experience in retail operations, market management, or hospitality leadership, ideally in a multi-location/multi-vendor landscape. The anticipated salary range for this role is $90–$115, plus eligibility for bonus and/or equity participation, depending on level and experience.
