THE ROLE The Static Equipment Manager is responsible for leading, executing, and growing RMS’ virtual assembly and advanced metrology services for static equipment applications, combining deep technical expertise in static equipment, dimensional metrology, and virtual assembly with strong project execution, customer engagement, and business development capabilities. The position serves as RMS’ technical and commercial leader for static equipment virtual assembly projects, driving work from initial customer engagement and technical scoping through field execution, data analysis, reporting, and final customer delivery, while expanding RMS’ presence in the static equipment market. The ideal candidate is a technical leader, project executor, and business builder — equally comfortable walking a fabrication shop discussing fit-up challenges, leading a virtual assembly project with metrology personnel and engineers, and explaining to a customer how RMS reduces risk, rework, and schedule. SKILLS REQUIRED ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATION • Ability to own and grow a technology-based service line — strategy, standards, and repeatable execution methodologies. • Strong project planning and execution across metrology, engineering, field services, and project management resources; demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams, with ownership of both project results and business growth. INTERPERSONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex metrology and engineering concepts for technical and non-technical audiences. • Communicates effectively with craftsmen, technicians, engineers, project managers, plant leadership, and executive-level customers; acts as a trusted technical advisor and leads kickoff meetings, technical reviews, and final customer presentations. TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE PREFERRED • Deep knowledge of static equipment and industrial field execution — fabrication, installation, alignment, fit-up, dimensional control, and tolerances. • Advanced understanding of dimensional metrology and virtual assembly, including laser trackers, 3D scanning, photogrammetry, and point-cloud processing. • Experience with CAD, modeling, and metrology platforms (SolidWorks, Inventor, NX, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Cyclone, PolyWorks, Verisurf, Navisworks, or similar); commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial approach to growth. PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Virtual Assembly & Project Execution • Lead planning and execution of all RMS virtual assembly projects involving static equipment; serve as technical authority and primary point of accountability., • Develop execution strategies using dimensional metrology, 3D scanning, laser tracking, modeling, and virtual assembly techniques, working with customers, engineering teams, fabricators, contractors, and RMS field personnel to establish objectives, requirements, tolerances, deliverables, and acceptance criteria., • Ensure field data collection is accurate and efficient, and oversee its transformation into actionable engineering information — fit-up analysis, alignment evaluations, dimensional inspections, interference detection, and virtual assembly results. Review and approve all customer deliverables., • Identify dimensional or fit-up issues before field installation and develop recommendations to mitigate schedule, quality, and execution risk., • Coordinate RMS resources across metrology, engineering, field services, and project management; drive consistent execution standards, documentation, and quality; capture lessons learned into repeatable methodologies. Static Equipment Technical Leadership • Serve as RMS’ subject matter expert for the application of metrology and virtual assembly technologies to static equipment., • Provide technical leadership for vessels, reactors, exchangers, columns, piping systems, structural interfaces, large fabricated components, and other critical static equipment, and evaluate where metrology, virtual assembly, and dimensional control can reduce execution risk, rework, field fit-up challenges, and turnaround duration., • Develop new technical applications and workflows, and support technical standards, procedures, training, and best practices that expand RMS’ static equipment capabilities. Business Development & Growth • Own and drive growth of the static equipment virtual assembly business, including business development objectives, pipeline, revenue targets, and growth initiatives for the segment., • Identify target customers, industries, projects, and applications where RMS technology provides measurable value; develop relationships with plant owners, EPCs, fabricators, contractors, and turnaround organizations., • Translate customer challenges into defined technical solutions and scopes of work; develop and support technical and commercial proposals including execution methodology, resources, schedule, assumptions, and pricing inputs., • Partner with RMS sales personnel to advance opportunities; develop technical presentations, case studies, and value propositions; expand successful projects into broader relationships, additional facilities, or repeatable programs. Customer & Project Leadership • Act as a trusted technical advisor throughout project development and execution; lead kickoff meetings, technical reviews, execution planning sessions, and final customer presentations., • Maintain strong customer communication and proactively address technical, schedule, or commercial concerns., • Ensure RMS solutions target measurable outcomes — reduced field rework, improved fit-up, lower installation risk, improved quality, and shorter turnaround or construction schedules — with a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES This position is expected to become the internal and external go-to leader for RMS static equipment virtual assembly — responsible not only for executing the work but for building the capability into a scalable service offering, including standardized processes, technical procedures, training, and the mentoring of supporting personnel as the business grows. Static Equipment Manager, and is subject to change based on the needs of the company. • Safe, high-quality, on-time execution of static equipment virtual assembly projects; customer satisfaction and repeat business., • Growth in static equipment virtual assembly revenue and project volume, a sustainable pipeline of new opportunities, and expansion into new customers, facilities, and applications., • Reduction of customer field fit-up issues, rework, installation risk, and schedule impacts; standardized, repeatable processes and effective collaboration across RMS metrology, engineering, field service, sales, and project teams. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS • Significant technical experience with static equipment in refining, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, industrial manufacturing, or similar heavy industrial environments., • Strong hands-on knowledge of dimensional metrology and large-scale measurement technologies, including laser trackers, 3D laser scanning, or comparable systems., • Demonstrated understanding of virtual assembly, dimensional control, tolerance analysis, alignment, fit-up, and geometric inspection, plus static equipment fabrication, installation, and repair practices., • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, dimensional requirements, GD&T, and equipment tolerances., • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical field projects from scope development through final customer delivery, to identify business opportunities and build technical solutions around customer needs, and to operate independently in field environments under schedule pressure., • Ability and willingness to travel 30% or more, including travel to industrial facilities and customer sites. Preferred • 10+ years of combined experience in static equipment, metrology, dimensional control, engineering, fabrication, field services, or related disciplines., • Experience leading virtual assembly or dimensional control programs for major capital projects, turnarounds, equipment replacements, or complex fabrication projects., • Experience working with EPCs, equipment fabricators, refineries, petrochemical facilities, or major industrial contractors; prior business development, technical sales, estimating, or proposal development experience, or experience developing a new technical service offering or emerging business segment. REQUIRED EDUCATION • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent extensive industry experience may be considered. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • The position may be worked remotely. This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week; additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs., • Travel is expected to be 30% or greater and may increase based on project and business development requirements, with regular work at refineries, petrochemical plants, fabrication shops, construction sites, and other industrial facilities, complying with all RMS and customer safety requirements., • Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check, and to participate in company random or customer specific screening. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Able to understand, read, write, and speak English. Authorized to work in the United States., • Ability and willingness to lift objects up to 50 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance; use hands for assembling and tool usage; and stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift. Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel., • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments. Work Environment The employee may work in or enter a shop, fabrication, or field service environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, including machining and construction operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
