Serves as a role model, advocate, and mentor for children and families, • Assists with obtaining and maintaining clients’ entitlements, including Medicaid, Public Assistance, SSI as well as assisting with problems related to housing or utilities, • Interviews clients and significant others, when appropriate, in order to obtain personal histories and to understand the social and emotional factors related to the client’s mental health problems, • Participates in frequent active engagement with families to engage them in receiving services and assists in empowering them to take the steps necessary to maximize their quality of life, • Develops inventory of resources that will meet the clients’ needs as identified in the assessment process, • Advocates for and assists clients in utilizing adjunctive community resources. Arranges transportation and accompanies clients to appropriate facilities/agencies, as necessary, • Provides linkage, coordination with, referral to and follow-up with other service providers. PURPOSE: The Jewish Board’s Community Behavioral Health treatment programs provide compassionate, high quality, evidence-based services to individuals and families in the communities we serve. Our staff use a culturally competent, person centered approach to help individuals and their families develop skills and resources to improve overall functioning, to instill hope, and to strengthen resiliency. Our programs work closely with community partners to address health disparities in our neighborhoods while also celebrating the strengths and resiliency of our communities. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Peer Specialist engages participants in peer-based services to identify and overcome barriers to engagement in treatment and community integration. The Peer Specialist supports client linkage and engagement with identified onsite providers and community providers and ensures that the client’s support networks are sufficient to meet their needs. The Peer Specialist utilizes a peer relationship to foster connection, trust, understanding and validation. The Peer Advocate position was created as research and CHASI’s values dictate that involving people who have their own lived experience with substance use, mental health conditions, and/ or HIV is invaluable in reaching and helping the population. The Peer Advocate mentors and guides individuals using their experiences to support people in a way that shows people that living a healthy life with HIV is not only possible but sustainable. Job Description Summary: Streetwork Project is an innovative outreach-counseling program for homeless youth in Harlem, which utilizes a harm reduction approach providing comprehensive services to adolescents and young adults impacted by homelessness and involved in street activities (gangs, violence, drug use/sale and survival sex). The Youth Services Peer Navigator are young adults (ages 18–30) with lived experience of unaccompanied homelessness during their youth. They provide mentorship, advocacy, and connection to resources for youth and young adults currently navigating the RHY continuum. Youth Services Peer Navigators help build trust, promote youth voice and choice, and walk alongside young people in their journeys. Youth Services Peer Navigators promote long-term stability and act as a connector between youth, staff, community, and service systems. Coaches meet young people “where they are” and build a trusting relationship with them using an authentic, trauma-informed, and strength-based approach, often in partnership with colleagues at our Non-Secure Detention program. In addition to providing weekly emotional support, Coaches help young people make progress toward their academic, career development, housing/independent living, and other life goals. When a young person is unsure of their goals/interests, Coaches help them explore and expose them to potential opportunities. They then help young people connect to schools, programs, and opportunities that align with their goals/interests, encourage persistence in those settings, and plan/prepare for the next step on their journey. Coaches celebrate young people’s progress; if something doesn’t work out, Coaches help young people reflect and connect to the next opportunity. Major Duties: • Build and maintain relationships with approximately 15 young people at any given time., • Meet with newly admitted youth within 48-72 hours to begin developing an academic/vocational/educational support plan., • Provide ongoing social/emotional support. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY City Parks Education has been offering interdisciplinary environmental education programs in schools and parks since 1992. The Coastal Classroom after-school program focuses on coastal ecology, water quality, urban waterfront restoration and preservation on the NYC waterfront, with sites in Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan, Bushwick Inlet Park in Williamsburg, Kaiser Park in Coney Island and Hallet's Cove Beach, Astoria, Queens. Coastal Classroom will provide after-school programming for up to 20-30 middle school students at each of the 4 locations, using site-specific inquiry-based lessons to stimulate meaningful learning experiences in their own communities. Between mid-October and December, the Coastal Classroom after-school program will engage middle school students in coastal ecology and maritime training, through instruction as well as trips to coastal areas and visits to organizations performing similar work. CPF has developed this fellowship opportunity for ambitious 11th or 12th grade high school students to gain hands-on experience and explore the environmental education sector, while helping to promote stewardship of our waterways and coastal areas. Job Description Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports, they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach almost 80,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today. CAMBA operates 6 single adult shelters and 6 family shelters and one drop in center. Each shelter offers clients a supportive, structured therapeutic, safe, and drug-free facility. Homeless (often mentally-ill and substance-abusing) men and women are provided with comprehensive services to stabilize their condition in order to successfully transition into to permanent and/or supported housing. Park Slope Shelter for Women serves 100 MICA (mentally ill chemical abusing) women at the Park Slope Armory in Brooklyn. Position: Recreation Coordinator Reports To: Assistant Prog. Director (Clinical) Location: 1402 Eighth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215 What The Recreation Coordinator Does: The person filling this position is expected, under general direction, to ensure the smooth day-to-day running and supervision of recreational program staff and client advocate (peer counselor) staff and services in accordance with program goals, targets, and performance outcomes and all CAMBA and program policies, procedures, and protocols; including the following: • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality., • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures., • Comply with any and all Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information., • Organize and lead therapeutic/recreational activities to enhance the social development of individual group members., • Plan and organize social/peer support/ADL events or groups to promote wellness and recovery, including developing skills to improve mental health, physical health, resistance to alcohol and other drug use and self-advocacy., • Facilitate and/or teach physical education, arts, music, or drama., • Plan and organize activities to maximize program contract's goals and performance targets., • Plan and organize activities within the facility and the community including volunteers, to maximize the program contract’s goals and performance targets., • Plan, coordinate and facilitate social/peer support events, including group facilitation for clients., • Design and produce aesthetic visuals for public spaces of the shelter which reflect cultural, seasonal and programmatic themes., • Maintain and post a weekly and/or monthly calendar of all client programmatic activities occurring internally and externally., • Input client data using the DHS CARES database, as needed., • Escort clients, as needed., • Communicate effectively with clients, direct reporting staff, peers, supervisors, and funders., • Encourage teamwork among direct reporting staff as well as among peers., • Troubleshoot client and direct reporting staff problems and make decisions in accordance with program policies, procedures, and protocols., • Work with direct reporting staff to improve work performance through client feedback, training, weekly documentation of one-on-one supervision of staff., • Motivate, coach and counsel direct reporting staff to excel., • Overcome resistance to change from clients, direct reporting staff, and supervisors/funders., • Administer constructive discipline to direct reporting staff, as needed., • Manage own time effectively and coordinate program activities to maximize time of direct reporting staff., • Monitor clients' progress toward their goals and document via progress notes., • Lead and participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested., • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/semester/annual reports to CAMBA management and/or to funders., • Review and sign timesheets., • Prepare performance appraisals for direct reporting staff., • May prepare marketing materials for the program., • May reach out and market the program to the community in order to develop additional resources for the program., • May conduct initial intake or assessment of clients., • May have direct client service/program responsibilities in addition to the above., • Task may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over a period of time. Minimum Education/Experience Required: • Bachelor's degree (e. g., B.A., B.S.W.) and two years of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience., • May be required to become First Aid/CPR certified., • May be required to become certified in overdose prevention., • Bi-lingual preferred. Compensation: $54,000- $56,000 annually When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
