Job DescriptionJob Title: Brooklyn Float Phlebotomist Job Description This float phlebotomist role supports multiple patient service centers across Brooklyn, Queens, and occasionally Manhattan and Staten Island by performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collection. The position requires an experienced phlebotomist who can work independently from day one, deliver accurate and timely specimen handling, and provide clear, courteous communication to patients and clinical staff in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring accurate and efficient venipuncture from the first day on the job., • Collect blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols., • Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear, courteous, and professional manner to ensure understanding and comfort., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all information for accuracy before collection and processing., • Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and otherwise process specimens as required by specific test orders and laboratory protocols., • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy prior to processing., • Package specimens for transport according to laboratory and regulatory guidelines to maintain specimen integrity., • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, following all procedures specific to each protocol., • Record maintenance data, perform decontamination tasks, and follow all safety and infection control procedures in the work area., • Update patient information and documentation accurately in the appropriate systems or forms., • Float between various patient service centers as assigned, adapting quickly to different locations, workflows, and teams., • Participate in interviews and assessments that may include a mock blood draw with a phlebotomy professional as part of the hiring process., • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare staff, maintaining professionalism and strong customer service at all times., • Maintain punctuality and reliability, ensuring consistent coverage and support for assigned patient service centers.Essential Skills, • Minimum of 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience, including extensive hands-on venipuncture., • Minimum of 2 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting., • Strong proficiency with straight needles and the ability to perform venipunctures independently from day one., • Demonstrated experience with blood draws, specimen collection, and venipuncture in a clinical environment., • Ability to collect, label, process, and store specimens in strict accordance with established procedures., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation, communication, and data entry tasks., • Reliable and punctual work habits, with the ability to manage time effectively across multiple locations., • Strong verbal communication skills to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients., • Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain high accuracy when matching requisitions, labels, and specimens., • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and adapting quickly to changing site needs and schedules.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working across multiple patient service centers or sites as a float phlebotomist., • Familiarity with centrifuges and other specimen processing equipment., • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining specimen integrity during collection, processing, and transport., • Customer service mindset with a focus on patient care, comfort, and professionalism., • Willingness to participate in an interview process that may include an initial phone interview followed by an onsite mock blood draw assessment.Work Environment This is a float position based primarily in Brooklyn, with regular travel to various patient service centers in Brooklyn and Queens and occasional assignments in Manhattan and Staten Island. Travel to Staten Island is very limited. The role involves working in busy clinical and laboratory environments that require adherence to safety, infection control, and specimen handling protocols. The schedule generally falls between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on the site, with most locations opening between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and some sites open as early as 7:00 a.m. and as late as 9:00 p.m. The phlebotomist will typically work an 8- to 9-hour shift within these hours, including rotating Saturdays as needed. Mileage, tolls, and parking incurred while traveling between patient service centers are reimbursed. The position requires flexibility to adjust to different site hours and workflows while maintaining a professional, patient-focused approach in each location. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
