Job DescriptionJob Title: PhlebotomistJob Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The position requires expertise in blood draws, labeling specimens, and other specimen processing tasks. Responsibilities • Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately., • Centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination procedures., • Update patient information as necessary., • Collect and store specimens following established procedures., • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections to patients., • Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles., • Fully understand and execute physicians' orders., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes., • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders., • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy., • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature., • Place samples in appropriate collection containers and accurately label them., • Follow protocols for specimen transport to maintain specimen integrity., • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations., • Attend annual department training sessions., • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.Essential Skills, • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required., • Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite., • High School Diploma or GED., • 0-2 years of experience.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in patient care, specimen collection, and specimen processing.
