NYSCI has approximately 87 full-time and over 103 part-time and casual staff members. POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), the Vice President of Individual Giving (VP) serves as a leadership member of the Institutional Advancement Team, playing a key role in making strategic decisions to drive forward NYSCI’s annual strategies for raising individual charitable gifts. In partnership with the CAO, this position is responsible for strategic fundraising and development activities related to NYSCI’s annual fund, the President’s Council and other individual major gift efforts. All of the aforementioned fundraising programs present crucial opportunities for cultivating and stewarding major donors. They also serve as important platforms for raising the profile of the institution and growing sources of unrestricted revenues for the organization. The VP will use these platforms to help us strengthen NYSCI’s donor / prospect pipeline, bring attention to NYSCI’s work, and recruit new advocates to drive the revenues needed to keep this work going and growing. The successful candidate will forge relationships with NYSCI’s Trustees, President’s Council members, and other advocates to steward existing supporters and bring on board new individual donors through these strategies. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Identify and research prospective donors and key connectors, and develop and implement outreach strategies to engage them. * Manage a portfolio of a minimum of 50 individuals, including prospects as well as active and lapsed donors. * Work with the CAO to establish annual revenue goals for individual giving; ensure these goals are met or surpassed. * Steer strategy around the President’s Council with the goal of raising new and renewed gifts ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 annually. * Provide stewardship to Trustees and other supporters and ambassadors associated with President’s Council and other individual giving activities. * In partnership with the Director of Events, conceptualize and carry out donor cultivation activities, including receptions, salons, and other tie-ins with NYSCI activities and exhibitions and special events (both independently and in collaboration with event vendors). Create personalized fundraising collateral, including invitation letters and follow-up materials for individual funders and prospects. * Provide shared oversight to the Development Associate to ensure accurate and up-to-date donor records, gift recording and tracking, reporting, etc. * Provide strategic guidance on creating insightful gift and donor reports to support decision-making and fundraising efforts. * Report to key stakeholders (staff, board, donors, etc.) on the efficacy of fundraising strategies. * In partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer, conduct departmental budget and review and approve vendor contracts to maintain accurate records of expenditures, ensure adherence to budgetary constraints and financial accountability, and transparent reporting. * Other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS * 10+ years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in progressive development roles managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources, primarily with individual donors * Bachelor's degree required, graduate degree preferred * Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time * Proven track record in fundraising unrestricted support, including overseeing donor events and programs * Prior experience contributing to multi-year strategic plans and raising funds for capital campaigns and capacity-building projects REQUIREMENTS * Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships * A self-motivated and driven professional who does not require close supervision * Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail * Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives * Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside NYSCI * High energy and passion for NYSCI’s mission is essential PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Stationary works station: The employee must be able to remain in a stationary sitting position for up to 8 hours a day with appropriate breaks. * Manual dexterity: The role requires the frequent use of hands for typing, writing, and handling office equipment. * Visual acuity: The employee must have the visual ability to perform extensive computer work for long periods, including reading and analyzing data on a computer screen. * Communication: The role requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal forms.
