We’re looking for an experienced Field Mechanic to join our Jacksonville team. In this role, you’ll support our field operations by maintaining and repairing heavy civil construction equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production across multiple job sites. What You’ll DoHeavy Equipment Maintenance & Repair * Service and repair diesel and heavy construction equipment, including engines, electrical systems, cooling systems, transmissions, clutches, differentials, PTO systems, starters, alternators, hydraulic systems, AC systems, and more. * Diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs on equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, motor graders, pumps, compressors, and other machinery. * Inspect, dismantle, and reassemble components using appropriate tools, hoists, and lift equipment. * Replace defective engines, transmissions, and other major components. * Perform welding repairs as needed on structural or mechanical parts. * Conduct equipment testing to ensure efficient operation after service. Field Support * Drive a one-ton or larger service truck (manual transmission). * Maintain accurate service and maintenance records. * Perform daily inspections, lubrication, and preventative maintenance. * Provide support to field crews as needed, including basic troubleshooting and emergency repairs. Professionalism & Safety * Maintain a clean and organized service truck. * Follow all company, OSHA, and equipment safety standards. * Maintain a positive, professional appearance and attitude when interacting with crews and clients. * Support Petticoat-Schmitt’s Code of Conduct and core values. What We’re Looking ForExperience & Skills * Proven experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic. * Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and diagnostic tools. * Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. * Welding and fabrication experience preferred. * Clean driving record and valid driver’s license required. * Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently. * John Deere experience is a plus, but not required. Physical & Work Requirements * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. * Work near heavy equipment, moving machinery, grease, dust, and construction materials. * Ability to lift and handle equipment, tools, and components as needed.
