MAJOR FUNCTIONS: In collaboration with the Director of Recreational Services, the Deputy Director of Recreational Services will provide oversight of all Odyssey House recreational activities across the designated facilities. The Deputy Director of Recreational Services works collaboratively with Director of Recreational Services and facility staff to facilitate a range of recreational activities which are focused on the promotion of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness as well as the identification of healthy lifestyle alternatives. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. In collaboration with Director of Recreational Services, provide oversight of Odyssey House recreational services., 2. Supervise assigned recreational staff including interns, yoga instructors and other recreational staff., 3. Develop and implement a “Run for Your Life” group curriculum focused on physical wellness and its relationship to recovery goals., 4. Assist the Director of Recreational Services in all aspects of client participation in RFYL program and the NYC Marathon., 5. Assist the Director of Recreational Services in all aspects of facility participation in annual Fun Day, “Run for Your Life” 5k fund raiser, and in-house program competition such as Basketball, Softball, Soccer etc., 6. Effectively onboard and orient all new Odyssey House recreational staff., 7. Provide introduction and orientation of recreational services to all Odyssey House clients and staff., 8. Assist in the scheduling of major facility recreational activities (i.e. sporting events, poetry slams, and in-house activity competitions etc.)., 9. Support organizational fundraising efforts., 10. Participate in quality improvement activities., 11. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 1. High School Diploma/GED required; CASAC or CASAC-T with applicable experience will be considered for the position., 2. Masters or bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation with CTRS certification preferred, 3. Minimum of two (2) year of providing recreational services to chemically dependent and/or mentally ill clients preferred., 4. Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, Electronic Health Record documenting and Outlook programs)., 5. CPR/First Aid Certification required., 6. Must be able to work evenings and weekends and maintain a flexible schedule. Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in the historic mixed-used Park Avenue Armory, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s Women’s Mental Health Shelter is a 24-hour program that addresses the critical issues facing 80 homeless women, age 45 and over, who have histories of mental illness. Through a comprehensive continuum of care and programming that includes social work services, medical, nursing and psychiatric care, specialized peer support, housing placement, benefits assistance, arts and recreation and food and nutrition programs, our talented, multi-disciplinary team which includes social workers, mental health clinicians, nurses, psychiatric providers, peer advocates and program assistants, helps clients to transition from homelessness to permanent housing. Hourly Rate: $27.50Hour Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Program Assistant is an integral member of our Women’s Mental Health Shelter, joining our multidisciplinary team, to support the day-to-day operations of the program and support our clients. The Program Assistant will have primary responsibility for assisting with all administrative, customer service and operational functions of the Women’s Mental Health Shelter. The Program Assistant will: • Interface daily with clients by providing excellent customer service by greeting and orienting clients, fielding questions and responding to client needs, • Assist clients with activities of daily living, including but not limited to, providing support for laundry, decluttering dorm areas and assisting with client-administered medication observation, • Assist in deescalating on-site crises and conflicts by providing problem-solving and conflict resolution to clients and document incident reports clearly with well-written and detailed summaries, • Support clients with the shelter intake process, identifying priority concerns and additional supports as needed, • Help facilitate day-to-day operations of our Women’s Mental Health Shelter and ensure they are conducted in accordance with our high-performance standards and government regulations, • Collaborate with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s staff from a variety of departments and disciplines The ideal Program Assistant thrives in a highly social and busy community setting and is willing and able to work a fast-paced schedule that will include evenings and weekends and some holidays given our 24/7 operating schedule and the expansive needs of our clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, organizational, customer service and administrative skills and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. As part of a collaborative team, the Program Assistant must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and be a team-player. Bachelor’s degree, with relevant experience in the field of homelessness services, behavioral health, substance use services or residential support preferred. Fluency in Spanish is ideal. This position is Per Diem (Part-time) meaning that the scheduled hours will vary with a maximum of 20 hours per week. Given the 24/7 operating schedule and the expansive needs of our clients, we are actively recruiting for the following open shifts : 7:00am- 3:00pm; 3:00pm – 11:00pm and 11:00pm – 7:00am.
