Job Description Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor Job Description The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor ensures that operations comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines, while driving a proactive safety culture. This role evaluates workplace risks, leads incident investigations, and partners closely with operations, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective EHS programs. The EHS Advisor provides hands-on coaching, develops training and job aids, and champions continuous improvement in environmental compliance and human safety across distribution, manufacturing, and store operations environments. Responsibilities • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines, and support ongoing regulatory compliance across all operational areas., • Inspect facilities regularly to identify workplace hazards, evaluate risks, and develop action plans that reduce injuries and incidents., • Lead incident and accident investigations, determine root causes, and define corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence., • Serve as a safety liaison between store operations, logistics, corporate teams, construction, distribution, manufacturing, and external vendors to support consistent EHS practices., • Coach employees and leaders on safety protocols, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements to strengthen the overall safety culture., • Take ownership of existing EHS programs, refine them for effectiveness, and design and implement new safety and environmental initiatives as needed., • Partner with operations to evaluate and conduct Job Hazard Analyses and Risk Assessments, ensuring that hazards are identified, documented, and mitigated through practical controls., • Create, document, and implement best methods, training programs, and job aids that educate employees and enhance EHS initiatives while supporting compliance., • Collaborate with operational leadership, Design/Engineering, Business Continuity, and other stakeholders to provide results, guidance, and recommendations for EHS initiatives., • Develop cross-functional EHS solutions by integrating input from Store Operations, Construction, Distribution, and Manufacturing to address systemic safety and environmental issues., • Influence and teach others to champion necessary changes that improve environmental compliance and human safety, and measure the effectiveness of these changes., • Develop strategic corrective actions based on performance metrics and guide or execute implementation of these actions across the organization., • Partner with operations to ensure a systematic process for thorough incident investigations, including identifying trends and opportunities for improvement., • Analyze incident data to make connections, identify patterns, and recommend proactive responses that influence workflow, equipment selection, and work environment design., • Balance EHS improvements with people, service, and productivity needs to ensure practical and sustainable solutions., • Conduct audits of safety programs, procedures, and practices to verify compliance with internal standards and external regulations., • Promote and support safe construction and environmental practices, including construction safety and environmental safety requirements., • Support lockout/tagout procedures and other critical safety programs to control hazardous energy and prevent injuries., • Complete special projects and assignments related to EHS as needed, adapting to evolving business and regulatory requirements. Essential Skills • Demonstrated experience in health and safety, with a strong focus on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)., • Knowledge of OSHA standards, including OSHA 1910 Standards, and the ability to apply them in industrial and operational environments., • Understanding of environmental health and safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines, and how they impact distribution, manufacturing, and store operations., • Experience in safety training, including the ability to design and deliver training on safety procedures, safe work practices, and regulatory compliance., • Hands-on experience with EHS compliance programs, including incident investigation, hazard identification, and corrective action planning., • Background in industrial hygiene or related EHS disciplines, with the ability to recognize and control workplace health hazards., • EHS degree or related field, or equivalent education and experience., • Approximately 3 years of EHS safety experience, with flexibility to consider candidates with fewer years if they have independently managed their own safety program., • Proficiency in OSHA safety practices, including OSHA 30-level knowledge or completion of OSHA 30 training., • Experience with construction safety and environmental safety practices in industrial, distribution, or store environments., • Ability to manage and audit safety programs, including development, implementation, and continuous improvement., • Knowledge and practical application of lockout/tagout procedures and other critical energy control methods., • Strong confidence in providing feedback on safety performance and practices to employees and leaders at all levels., • Experience with distribution and/or manufacturing environments, with an understanding of their unique safety and environmental risks., • Store operations experience that supports practical implementation of EHS programs in retail or operational settings. Additional Skills & Qualifications • ASP (Associate Safety Professional) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or progress toward this credential., • CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) or related certification., • Experience partnering with Design/Engineering teams to address EHS requirements in equipment, processes, and facility design., • Experience collaborating with Business Continuity teams to align EHS initiatives with broader risk management strategies., • Proven ability to influence and teach others to champion EHS initiatives and drive cultural change., • Strong analytical skills to identify trends, connect data points, and recommend proactive EHS solutions., • Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses and Risk Assessments in operational environments., • Ability to create clear and practical job aids, training materials, and documentation that support EHS initiatives., • Demonstrated ability to balance safety, environmental compliance, and operational productivity when recommending solutions., • Motivation to grow within the organization, supported by opportunities for promotions and career development. Work Environment This role is primarily based on an onsite manufacturing floor and within distribution and operational environments. The EHS Advisor spends significant time in active production, distribution, and store operations areas, working closely with frontline teams and leadership. The work environment includes exposure to typical manufacturing and industrial conditions, such as machinery, material handling equipment, and ongoing production activities. The position requires regular presence on the floor to observe work practices, conduct inspections, perform audits, and deliver hands-on training. Standard safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are used as appropriate for the manufacturing and distribution settings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $50.48/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
