Academic achievement comes first. Character development is a close second. Both are non-negotiable and require every leader to act as a team player. This may include planning and teaching after-school tutorials, pulling small groups, covering classes, or coordinating Saturday school. We move the academic dial together with urgency and excellence. Primary Function The Dean of Academics evaluates and provides leadership for the instructional program. The Dean works collaboratively with teachers and administrators to promote and maintain high levels of academic achievement. The Dean leads the evaluation of instructional programs and implementation of quality instruction to enhance scholar achievement. The Dean provides professional development for teachers, coaches, and staff. Reports To The Dean of Academics reports to the Principal and district staff. Terms Of Employment Full Time/ Year-Round/ Salary- $52,000-$65,000/ On-Site Job ResponsibilitiesChampions Beta’s Vision, Mission and Core Values • Ensures vision and mission drive school decisions, • Ensures a professional and college preparatory climate across the campus, • Confronts low expectations, • Builds a culture of high aspirations and achievement for every scholar, • Implements Beta rituals, routines, celebrations and dances that ensure a culture of joy and academic success, • Requires staff and scholars to demonstrate consistent values and positive behaviors aligned to the school’s vision and mission, • Leads a school culture and environment that successfully develops leaders, • Upholds a culture of honor and strong discipline Organization and Management • Maintains visibility during the school day and monitors common areas to ensure student safety and security, • Schedules benchmarks such as Interim Assessments, MAP/NWEA, IOWA, Star, and mock STAAR test to promote STAAR readiness, • Understands and uses the breakdown of benchmarks given, • Trains teachers to understand the data and how to better assist their scholars through Data Driven Instruction (DDI), • Trains teachers on data gathering systems such as MAP/NWEA, • Ensures TEKS are being taught in all grades, • Aligns curriculum with TEKS, • Organizes and leads effective tutorials programs before, after, and during school, • Oversees teacher communication with parents regarding child development and academic standing, • Ensures Teachers monitor scholar class folders for Individualized Learning Plans and are aware of the content of the plans, • Works with Sped and ESL teachers to offer greater support to SPED and ESL scholars, • Develops and delivers academic training as needed for teachers and coaches, • Facilitates daily operations of local assessment (curriculum, DDI, STAAR, etc.), • Prepares improvement plans as needed, • Ensure compliance of all teaching with Beta curriculum and TEA rules and regulations, • Helps facilitate student success committee, • Ensures enrollment and capacity expectations are met, • Ensures campus maintains > 98.5% daily attendance and timelines, • Ensures teachers effectively use data (IEP Plan, student records, discipline data, etc.) to identify individual modifications and building-wide trends., • Identifies at-risk scholars and works with Response-to-Intervention/Multi-tiered Systems of Support team to ensure proper support, • Lead and manage academic RTI/MTSS for implementation across grades 5–12, • Train teachers on RTI/MTSS identification, progress monitoring, and effective interventions, • Schedule and chair RTI/MTSS meetings 6 times per year (every 6 weeks), • Hold teachers accountable for completing biweekly progress monitoring, • Ensure Skyward logs and shared RTI trackers are updated and accurate, • Monitor scholar progress and make tier placement decisions in collaboration with teachers, • Ensure campus RTI/MTSS practices meet Texas HB1416 and state guidelines, • Coordinate with interventionists, teachers, and principals to align supports, • Communicate RTI/MTSS expectations and updates to teachers and interventionists regularly, • Ensures due process and legal compliance regarding all scholar disciplinary actions Coaching, Observations & TIA • Ensures an A campus rating from TEA, • Observes and gives feedback on classroom culture and behavior management systems., • Coaches teachers in developing and maintaining high expectations for scholars and the learning environment they are expected to thrive in, • Coaches and models how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with scholars and families grounded in our district’s core values, • Facilitate collaboration and sharing among teachers including peer observations, coaching and mentorship, and joint planning sessions, • Works with intervention specialists to provide constructive feedback on teachers’ planning and assessment materials to ensure that our scholars’ diverse learning needs are being met; in conjunction with BA leadership team, • Ensures access to and participation in high-quality internal and external professional development for staff; throughout the school year; Participate in staff recruitment; staff orientation, student/family recruitment, and student/family orientation;, • Oversees all aspects of TIA, • Ensures all teachers have up-to-date observations completed in compliance with TIA, • Facilitates and uses Whetstone to promote efficiency and accountability in the coaching cycle, • Communicates with Whetstone representatives and schedules professional development to ensure the full use of this tool, • Facilitates coach program with district staff that aligns with our coach vision and is in compliance with TIA (e.g. Coach in-service)Leadership, • Treats all people fairly and with dignity and respect.
