Job DescriptionDescription: PlayCV is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Castro Valley students by providing high-quality afterschool programs rooted in joyful play, hands-on learning, and whole-child development. We partner with nine elementary schools and two middle schools in the Castro Valley Unified School District to deliver meaningful enrichment experiences that include arts, science, music, STEM, recreation, social-emotional learning, and academic support. Our programs support students in building confidence, exploring creativity, strengthening social skills, and forming meaningful relationships. About The Full PLAY (TFP) Program The Full PLAY (TFP) Program operates from the last bell of the school day until 6:00 p.m. Students check in, receive a snack, and rotate through enrichment classes, homework support, outdoor play, STEAM activities, and social engagement opportunities. Job Summary The Team Coach is a key leader in PlayCV’s program operations, responsible for overseeing multiple TFP program sites and developing strong site teams that deliver safe, engaging, and high-quality experiences for students and families. The Team Coach directly supervises Team Captains and supports site teams, including TK/Kindergarten Leads and TFP Instructors, through coaching, staff development, operational oversight, and ongoing communication. This role ensures program quality across locations, builds strong relationships with school partners, supports curriculum implementation, and leads continuous improvement efforts that enhance the student experience. The Team Coach must be flexible and responsive to changing program and staffing needs, provide on-site support when necessary, and model PlayCV’s Community Agreements, professionalism, integrity, and student-centered decision-making at all times. Requirements: Essential Job Functions 1. Program & Site Leadership • Oversee daily operations across multiple afterschool program locations., • Ensure safe, inclusive, developmentally appropriate environments for students at all sites., • Support Team Captains in maintaining required supervision ratios, emergency readiness, and program flow., • Monitor program quality and consistency across enrichment, homework support, outdoor play, and student engagement. 2. Staff Support, Coaching & Development • Supervise, coach, and mentor Team Captains, TK/Kindergarten Leads, and TFP Instructors., • Provide regular feedback, support performance development, and facilitate professional growth., • Support the completion and implementation of training plans for both new and returning staff., • Model and reinforce PlayCV’s Community Agreements and values in all leadership interactions., • Assist with performance evaluations and follow-through on performance improvement expectations. 3. Scheduling, Staffing & Operations • Ensure adequate coverage, break compliance, and support plans for absences or operational changes., • Coordinate substitute coverage and respond to same-day staffing needs., • Oversee timecard accuracy, attendance patterns, and compliance with organizational procedures., • Monitor and support site needs related to supplies, snacks, equipment, and facility resources. Escalate site needs to the responsible teams. 4. Program Quality, Curriculum & Student Experience • Collaborate with curriculum developers and program leadership to implement activities that align with PlayCV’s mission and enrichment goals., • Support Team Captains in maintaining engaging, inclusive activity rotations and supplemental enrichment., • Guide site teams in positive behavior support strategies rooted in engagement, consistency, and whole-child development., • Collect, share, and implement feedback to continuously improve student experiences. 5. Family, School & Community Relations • Serve as a primary program representative to school administrators, counselors, and community partners., • Support Team Captains in communicating promptly and professionally with families regarding concerns or incidents., • Build trust and positive relationships across school sites., • Participate in organization-wide events, meetings, and trainings. 6. Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities • Ensure all sites comply with PlayCV policies, safety procedures, and operational expectations., • Oversee documentation of incidents, staff concerns, student support needs, and site-level updates., • Assist in reporting metrics and supporting administrative tasks as needed. The Team Coach must model, teach, and uphold PlayCV’s Community Agreements: • Keep our students at the center of our decisions and actions, • Be open to feedback and operate with a growth mindset, • Be kind and respectful, • Own our attitude, • Support each other and hold each other accountable Candidate Profile A strong candidate for the Team Coach role: • Is passionate about youth development and whole-child learning., • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills., • Uses excellent judgment and remains calm and solutions-focused during challenges., • Works well in fast-paced, student-centered environments., • Has experience managing teams or multiple program sites in afterschool, school-age childcare, recreation, or youth development settings., • Is dependable, organized, proactive, and committed to supporting the full school-year schedule., • Is flexible and willing to support multiple locations, shifting program needs, and operational demands., • Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking, listening)., • Regular use of a computer, tablet, phone, and typical office equipment., • Ability to obtain and maintain DOJ/FBI criminal background clearance., • Negative TB test within the last 4 years., • Ability to travel to multiple work sites as scheduled or needed.
