Job Description JOB TITLE: BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN I MAIN FUNCTION: • Primary focus of this position will be to research and compile documentation regarding Clinical Engineering standards and recommended practices to be utilized for the development of a AH Clinical Engineering policy and process regarding medical equipment maintenance strategies, risk assessment and alternative maintenance., • Additionally, will work under close supervision, of a BMET III and/or the System Director of Clinical Engineering, to perform a variety of technical and administrative duties associated with medical equipment preventive maintenance (PM), repair, and evaluation. Will assist with and observe clinical support for a broad spectrum of patient and non‑patient medical equipment. Reports to the System Director of Clinical Engineering. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative: • Utilizing a variety of internal and internet resources, will research literature related to medical equipment maintenance strategies and risk assessment to compile, organize and present current best practices., • Researches and documents medical equipment manufacturer recommend maintenance frequencies and procedures., • Utilizes the AH Medi-Mizer computerized maintenance management software to review current maintenance practice and compare to manufacturer recommendations. Utilizes Medi-Mizer and/or Excel to present and compare data., • Works with Medi-Mizer support to develop PI/QA reports for PM compliance and unscheduled service review., • Works with Clinical Engineering Director and Biomedical Technicians to develop policies and procedures related to equipment maintenance and, • May attend AH Environment of Care Meetings and participates in EOC tracer rounds to assist with improvement of reporting and documentation., • Participates in organized education and training activities to upgrade knowledge and job performance., • Maintains records of each service related job assignment., • Initiates requests for replacement parts and materials. Technical: Works with and under the direct supervision of a Biomedical Technician III to: • Perform a variety of technical duties, providing preventive maintenance and repairs on complex electromedical and clinical equipment; minor medical equipment; personal and non‑patient equipment under the general supervision of the Clinical Engineering Director., • Installs medical systems and instruments, initiates and completes installation documentation in a timely manner., • Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, performance testing and electrical safety testing to assure operational integrity. Documents all actions taken and findings., • Utilizes existing or designs new test procedures and equipment to measure performance of newly purchased equipment. Updates procedures as warranted., • Evaluates demonstration units and provides technical reports of the findings., • Utilizes various measurement techniques to obtain optimum operational efficiency of electromedical equipment., • Is familiar with and demonstrates Performance Improvement principles and participates in the process as appropriate., • Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health., • It is understood that this job description lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: AAS or BS in an Engineering field of study or currently enrolled in an Engineering or Technology Program and have successfully completed at least 1 year of studies. Equivalent education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis. CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS: No CPR requirement. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May be required to lift equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Alternative accommodations may be evaluated. EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category II.
