Job DescriptionDescription: Maternity Leave Coverage for Lower School Small Group Instructor & Part-time Librarian (March 2026) Reports to: Mrs. Kate Remillard, Director of Lower School Full-time | April & May 2026 | Non-Exempt (paid hourly) Position Summary St. George's is seeking maternity leave coverage for a full-time teacher who serves in a dual role as our Kindergarten Small Group Instructor and part-time Librarian. In the morning, this teacher supports Kindergarten by leading Number Corner and supporting math and reading instruction with the homeroom teacher. In the afternoon, this teacher leads Library classes for Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th grade. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a passion for teaching elementary students, enjoy collaboration with fellow colleagues, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. This candidate will be seen as an integral member of the Kindergarten team and will work closely with fellow teachers and students’ families to support the growth and development of each child. The start date for this position is anticipated for March 23, 2026, but may be sooner if needed. This position concludes on June 5th, 2026. Daily hours are 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. This person is eligible for overtime. Requirements: Kindergarten Small Group Instructor (Morning) Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Curricular and Teaching Responsibilities:, • Lead Number Corner, the daily calendar component of Bridges in Mathematics., • Support reading and writing instruction led by the homeroom teacher by providing one-on-one student coaching as students work on independent assignments., • Share insight and feedback to support the report card process for all homeroom students., • Attend Morning Meeting to develop positive relationships with the students and become embedded in the classroom and grade-level culture., • Grade-Level Responsibilities:, • Share recess and lunch duties with the other grade-level team members., • Attend parent/teacher conferences on May 26th to support conversations about student progress., • Participate in Workshop Week meetings (May 27th - June 5th) as needed to wrap up the school year., • Communication and Collaboration Responsibilities:, • Collaborate with teammates regarding students’ strengths, areas of growth and strategies implemented to ensure a cohesive educational experience for each student., • Show a commitment to the social, emotional and character development of each child. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Establish a safe and inclusive library environment where all students and staff feel comfortable and ready to learn and explore materials., • Maintain the physical library space and its materials., • Implement lesson plans according to our library curriculum that explore a variety of topics and genres and complement St. George's Lower School reading curriculum, • Instruct students in Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th grade in 30-to-45-minute weekly classes that allow students to explore age-appropriate literature and develop an appreciation for reading., • Assist students as they navigate the school library and select books to check out; endeavor to get to know each student as an individual learner, understanding his or her interests, strengths and barriers to learning., • Utilize classroom management techniques to maintain a calm library and/or classroom atmosphere that prioritizes student learning and creativity., • Record books and other materials checked out from the library via our in-house, technology-based system. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily & Wednesdays until 4:30 p.m., • Attends full faculty meetings on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Occasionally, meetings may last until 5 p.m., • Eligible for overtime, • Bachelor’s degree required; experience in Early Childhood or Elementary Education preferred., • 1+ years of teaching experience., • A sense of integrity, ethics and ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures., • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications including but not limited to Gmail, Calendar and Drive., • Ability to use an online student information system, various educational platforms and safety/communication applications on a Chromebook, iPad and/or smartphone., • Familiarity with using copiers, printers, document cameras and presentation screens., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
