Job DescriptionNYS 19-A Examiner / Driver Compliance Specialist Location: Mt Vernon, NY Job Type: Full-Time Pay: From $70,000 per year About the Role First Student is hiring a NYS 19-A Examiner / Driver Compliance Specialist to support driver qualification, safety compliance, training, testing, and regulatory documentation for our transportation operations. This role is responsible for ensuring drivers remain fully compliant with New York State DMV Article 19-A, SED, and NYC DOE requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working with drivers and managers, and experienced in a regulated transportation or school bus environment. What You'll Do As the Driver Compliance Specialist, you will help maintain safe, compliant, and efficient transportation operations by managing driver compliance requirements at the location level. Responsibilities include: • Serve as a certified NYS 19-A Examiner, • Conduct required pre-employment, annual, and biennial driver qualification reviews, • Administer required driver testing, evaluations, and compliance checks, • Train and evaluate drivers on safe driving procedures and regulatory requirements, • Maintain compliance with NYS DMV, SED, and NYC DOE requirements, • Manage driver qualification files and ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and current, • Monitor driver compliance status and follow up on missing or expired documentation, • Support audits, inspections, regulatory reviews, and corrective action processes, • Maintain contract compliance and ensure adherence to legal and operational requirements, • Prepare compliance reports, schedules, management reports, and official correspondence, • Enter, update, and retrieve data from fleet and compliance management systems, • Communicate with drivers, monitors, managers, customers, vendors, and internal departments, • Support additional safety, compliance, and operational needs as requiredRequired Qualifications, • High school diploma or equivalent, • Valid NYS 19-A Examiner License, • Minimum of 2 years of administrative, office, compliance, transportation, or operations experience, • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, • Ability to maintain accurate records and confidential information, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Excellent attention to detail and follow-up skills, • Ability to work independently and as part of a teamPreferred Qualifications, • SBDI certification strongly preferred, • Experience in school transportation, driver compliance, safety training, or regulated transportation operations, • Experience working with NYS DMV, SED, or NYC DOE compliance requirements, • Experience using fleet, compliance, HR, or driver management systemsWork Environment This position requires the ability to work in an office and transportation facility environment. The role may require walking throughout the facility, accessing filing systems, using standard office equipment, and communicating in person, by phone, and electronically. Why Join First Student?
