OVERVIEW The Lead Education Coordinator (LEC) will work under the supervision of the Senior Program Manager.. They will be responsible for fostering a safe and supportive learning environment for school-age children, grades TK-12, through the development, coordination, and implementation of child & youth activities. Additionally, act as a liaison with youth, parents, and school administrators, cultivating community partnerships with local academic organizations. The LEC position supports after-school and summer programming to enrich the learning experiences of our children and young residents by creating a welcoming, safe, caring atmosphere for them to grow and explore at our on-site centers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CIRCULUM DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION • Implement a structured daily schedule of program activities for the Children & Youth and Teen Center program with a focus on remedial skill-building and teaching basic reading, writing, science, and math skills., • Providing tutoring and homework support in multiple subject areas for children ages 5 to 17, with a focus on remedial skill-building and teaching basic reading, writing, science, and math skills., • Coach staff to set age-appropriate expectations for the learning centers and work with staff to create a structured process for accountability and expectations for youth participants., • Integrate grant activities into the program curriculum and proactively plan and implement grant reporting requirements into documentation standards. SITE COORDINATION & ENGAGEMENT • Co-supervise child and youth services team, interns, volunteers, and youth leaders to use strength-based skill-building and engagement methods and interpersonal boundaries; Schedule appropriate staff coverage for all program activities., • Identify, report, follow up, and coordinate all program site maintenance and repair needs., • Coordinate food delivery services and ensure all health & safety procedures for proper storage are followed., • Facilitate regular outreach to families to market programming and seasonal registration. PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT • Develop and integrate outside community partners and resources for APC children and youth to expand their experiences., • Network with local school administrators and youth programs in the community to build academic and life skill opportunities in the county. ADMINISTRATION • Follow APC program confidentiality procedures and meet all program documentation requirements and timelines, • Regularly collect program outcome data; Update and record daily activity logs into database, • Actively participate in all regularly scheduled meetings, training, and inter-departmental meetings., • Follow the agency's fiscal procedures by coordinating all purchases with the supervisor, • Comply with APC staff conduct policies, local and state-mandated reporting laws; Notify supervisor and leadership of any unusual child/youth and staff issues (behavior changes, injuries, etc.) and write incident reports as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s degree in Child or Youth Development preferred., • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching or coordinating curriculum-based programs for children ages 5–17, preferably in educational or recreational settings, working with low-income or homeless families., • Solid understanding of IEP and 504 plan processes, including how to support youth with learning differences or accommodations, • Demonstrated use of strength-based wellness tools while leading structured activities in occasionally high-stress environments, • Experience, training, or clinical knowledge related to the needs of children and youth facing significant barriers, such as homelessness, poverty, mental illness, disabilities, and family substance abuse issues, • Ability to pass a criminal background check required, • CPR/First Aid certified, or willingness to be certified within the first 30 days of employment, • Must provide proof of a negative TB test or risk assessment completed within the past 12 months, in accordance with California Health & Safety Code., • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record; must be capable of safely operating the agency van for field trips., • Must be flexible with scheduling, with availability to start at 7:30 AM and work later hours during the summer months KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES • Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills, • Ability to plan, organize, and deliver engaging educational activities, • Experience managing classroom or group behavior using positive guidance techniques, • Culturally responsive, trauma-informed approach to working with youth and families, • Ability to mentor and train junior staff and volunteers., • Reliable, responsible, open to feedback, and committed to improvement, • Demonstrated ability to set clear boundaries and age-appropriate limits across a range of youth age groups., • Passionate about community-based work with children and youth, • Ability to interact respectfully with staff, youth, and families from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds, • Demonstrated ability to set clear boundaries and age-appropriate limits across a range of youth age groups., • Able to follow written and oral instructions accurately, • Flexible and adaptable; able to adjust work schedule to meet evolving program and resident needs, • Capable of performing effectively under high-stress conditions, • Physically able to bend, sit for extended periods, and actively engage in physical activities with children., • Ability to occasionally lift items weighing between 10–50 pounds This job description does not promise or imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed or that the position may not change or be eliminated.
