We are retained with a globally operating aerospace engineering and manufacturing business focused on strengthening leadership within its Research & Development function to enhance technical cohesion, sharpen execution, and align innovation more closely with commercial objectives. As part of this evolution, the organisation is appointing a Global Head of Research & Development, based in France, to provide visible, on-site leadership and unify multi-site R&D teams under a clear strategic direction. This role will shape the long-term product roadmap, strengthen management capability within a highly technical environment, and ensure consistent delivery of innovation across the division. This position operates at the intersection of strategy and execution. It requires a leader who can define direction at executive level while also building structure, accountability, and cohesion within established engineering teams. The role carries high visibility with senior leadership and significant influence over the future technical trajectory of the organisation. Why This Role Stands Out • Executive ownership of global aerospace R&D strategy, • Leadership of highly technical, PhD-qualified engineering teams, • Mandate to strengthen management discipline within a research-led environment, • Direct influence over NPD and subsystem integration strategy, • Visible, on-site leadership role with meaningful organisational impact, • Growing international business with long-term strategic ambitions Key Responsibilities • Define and implement the global R&D and product development strategy, • Unify and integrate multi-site R&D teams under a cohesive leadership structure, • Lead four direct reports across multiple divisions, • Manage and develop long-tenured, highly qualified engineering professionals, • Align research priorities with commercial objectives and customer requirements, • Drive new product introduction (NPI) from concept, • Manage R&D budget and resource allocation, • Strengthen execution discipline, governance, and cross-functional collaboration, • Build and maintain relationships with aerospace OEMs, partners, and research institutions What Success Looks Like • A cohesive and aligned global R&D organisation, • Clear strategic roadmap supported by disciplined execution, • Successful delivery of commercially aligned aerospace products, • Strong collaboration between engineering, operations, and leadership, • Improved management structure and accountability within technical teams, • Measurable contribution to product competitiveness and business performance Required Experience & Qualifications • Ten or more years within aerospace engineering environments with management experience (must have), • Strong technical foundation in electrical and/or mechanical engineering, • Master’s degree or PhD (strongly preferred), • Proven track record of leading complex R&D organisations, • Demonstrated NPI and product industrialisation experience, • Experience managing senior technical experts and long-tenured research professionals, • Ability to operate strategically while remaining execution-focused Highly Desirable • Experience within aerospace and/or defense OEM or Tier-1 environments, • Experience integrating international engineering teams, • French language capability, • Experience leading through organisational transformation or capability strengthening initiatives Personal Attributes • Strong personality with executive presence, • Credible technical leader with board-level communication capability, • Balanced strategic thinker and hands-on executor, • Culturally intelligent with international leadership capability, • Collaborative, unifying, and performance-driven
