We are now seeking a dedicated and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team and support high-quality teaching and learning across the school. Role Purpose The HLTA will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to deliver high-quality learning experiences for pupils. The role includes planning and delivering small-group and whole-class teaching, supporting behaviour and wellbeing, and contributing to the wider life of the school. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning * Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups, and occasionally whole classes, following teacher-prepared plans. * Contribute to the planning and evaluation of lessons, adapting learning materials to meet the needs of pupils. * Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, including those with SEND or behavioural needs. * Use a range of positive behaviour strategies to maintain an inclusive and productive learning environment. Pupil Support * Provide pastoral and emotional support, helping pupils to build confidence and resilience. * Support pupils with personal care needs if required. * Encourage independence and promote positive attitudes to learning. Assessment & Record Keeping * Monitor learners’ progress and provide clear, constructive feedback. * Keep accurate records of interventions, assessments, and behaviour as required. * Feed back to teachers, parents, and other professionals when appropriate. Teamwork & Professionalism * Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals. * Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing professional development. * Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and health & safety policies at all times. Person Specification Essential * HLTA status or equivalent qualification. * Experience working with primary-aged children, including those with additional needs. * Ability to deliver learning activities independently to groups and whole classes. * Strong communication, organisation, and behaviour-management skills. * A positive, resilient, child-centred approach. * Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Desirable * Experience within a specialist or SEN setting. * Training in Team Teach, Thrive, or other therapeutic/behaviour frameworks. * Knowledge of strategies for supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH needs, or communication difficulties.
