Purpose of the Role The Senior Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and sustainable cost estimates for tenders and pre-construction opportunities. You will lead the estimating process from initial enquiry through to submission, ensuring all commercial, technical, and risk factors are considered to secure profitable work for the business. Key Responsibilities • Lead the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions for complex construction projects., • Analyse tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to assess risk, value opportunities, and buildability., • Prepare detailed bills of quantities and cost breakdowns in accordance with company and client requirements., • Engage with supply chain partners to obtain quotations, validate pricing, and ensure competitive market coverage., • Collaborate with design, planning, and delivery teams to align cost assumptions with technical and programme requirements., • Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings, presenting cost proposals confidently to clients and senior stakeholders., • Support value engineering and alternative design options to deliver best value., • Mentor and support junior estimators, contributing to a high-performing pre-construction team., • Ensure all estimating processes comply with Morgan Sindall’s governance, quality, and safety standards., • Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator within a main contractor (preferably Tier 1 or large regional)., • Strong background in construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects., • Excellent understanding of tendering procedures, cost planning, and commercial principles., • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy., • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally., • Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously., • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline (HNC/HND/Degree)., • Membership of RICS, CIOB, or similar professional body (desirable).
