Location: Heath, Cardiff Hours: 5:00 pm - 1:00 am Pay: £13.45 per hour (weekdays until 8:00 pm) / £17.91 per hour (8:00 pm - 1:00 am) Shifts: Any 5 days from 7, including weekends Contract: Temporary The Role Manpower is recruiting a Cook to join a busy public?sector catering retail unit in Heath, Cardiff. You will prepare, cook, and serve a variety of dishes, including regenerating pre-prepared meals and producing fresh homemade-style meals such as curries and lasagnes. The role requires maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer service while working as part of a wider catering team. Main Responsibilities Preparing fresh meals including curries, lasagnes, and other homemade-style dishes Cooking and regenerating menu items such as pizzas and chicken goujons Supporting daily kitchen operations in the main restaurant and canteen Maintaining food quality and ensuring meals are served within agreed timescales Following food hygiene and safety procedures at all times Managing stock rotation and keeping the kitchen clean and organised Delivering excellent customer service to staff and visitors Essential Requirements Previous experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen Experience preparing fresh, homemade meals Valid Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate Strong understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene Reliable, flexible, and able to work evening and weekend shiftsThis role is subject to satisfactory references. Evening Shifts = 4pm until 10pm 30 hours over 5 days Availability to do some morning shifts as required Salary = £20592 / FTE = £27456 Maintain a clean, organised workstation, following hygiene and food safety standards rigorously. Bring your creativity to every plate, ensuring the highest standards of presentation and taste. Work closely with the restaurant team, communicating with precision to deliver dishes on time. Prepare ingredients for various dishes, from chopping and slicing to marinating and portioning, to ensure breakfast and dinner service runs smoothly. Keep the kitchen flowing smoothly by prepping and organising like a pro, so every service is seamless. Help with kitchen inventory by preparing ingredients, monitoring stock levels, and informing the kitchen manager when supplies are low. Kitchen Porter duties as required WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU Genuine interest in cooking and enthusiasm for learning in a professional kitchen. Some previous kitchen experience is a plus, but a willingness to work hard and learn is essential. Understanding of basic food prep techniques and a commitment to improving your skills. Strong attention to detail, especially regarding cleanliness and food safety. Team-oriented mindset, able to take direction well and support colleagues as needed. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, staying focused and reliable during busy services.
