Role responsibilities We are seeking a Head of Production to join our Senior Leadership Team. Reporting to the Managing Director, the post holder will lead and optimise all production activities across the site, including heavy maintenance (C4/C6, refresh and modifications) and trainborne equipment refurbishment. The role is accountable for operational performance, ensuring production is delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with regulatory, customer and business requirements, while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Safety & Ethics – Support the SHEQ strategy and ensure compliance with Pullman Rail safety and compliance policies., • Delivery & Excellence – Deliver high-quality, on-time and on-budget production outputs, driving efficiency, profitability and customer satisfaction., • Operational Leadership – Provide strategic leadership of all production activities, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, cost and schedule requirements., • People – Lead, develop and motivate production teams, promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and a culture of accountability and collaboration., • Performance & Improvement – Set and monitor KPIs, manage resources and budgets, and apply lean and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance performance., • Collaboration & Customers – Work closely with engineering and support functions and act as the senior operational contact for customers. Who we’re looking for • A candidate with significant senior operational leadership experience within traction and rolling stock, engineering, manufacturing or another safety-critical environment., • A candidate with a degree, or equivalent experience, in engineering, production management or a related discipline., • Someone with a strong understanding and knowledge of production planning, maintenance and overhaul processes as well as of regulatory and industry frameworks (for example, RISAS, ISO ROGS) who is able to lead, influence and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to develop strategies and programmes., • A mentor and coach able to develop the engineering team to support professional and organisational growth. This individual will play a pivotal role in managing the bid process from start to finish, producing high-quality written content for both public and private sector opportunities. The Bid Manager will draft, edit, and coordinate compelling bid responses that align with client requirements and reflect brand values. Working closely with Legal, HR, Finance, and Operations teams, the successful candidate will handle multiple bids simultaneously, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering outstanding results. Key Responsibilities • Monitor tender portals daily to identify new opportunities and early engagement prospects., • Contribute to the completion of SQ / PQQ and onboarding documents., • Collaborate with the Content Writer to create and refine engaging, brand-aligned content., • Lead the qualification process and coordinate all tender-related activities, including proposals, presentations, and negotiations., • Act as a Bidding Coach, advising colleagues and contributing to the organisation’s social value strategy., • Partner with the Head of Bids & Tenders to develop targeted win strategies., • Analyse bid performance, collate feedback, and maintain accurate records., • Generate MI reports, track tender activity, and recommend process improvements. Ideal Candidate • Holds (or is working towards) an APMP Foundation Certificate (advantageous)., • Demonstrates proven experience in bid processes across public and private sectors., • Possesses excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders., • Shows a passion for continuous improvement and enhancing bid processes., • Has experience in developing and writing compelling content, particularly around social value delivery., • Understands prompt engineering for generative AI tools to drive efficiency in bid management, content creation, tone adjustment, and task automation.
