Purpose of the Role The Calibration Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality calibration and instrumentation support within a regulated, mission-critical environment. During the initial project phase, the role will focus on supporting the principal contractor in developing site documentation and establishing calibration and instrumentation processes in line with client requirements. Once the site becomes fully operational, the position will transition into a steady-state role with responsibility for: Day-to-day calibration service delivery Maintenance and control of critical test equipment Coordination of third-party calibration providers Ensuring system accuracy, availability, and regulatory compliance Key Responsibilities Calibration & Instrumentation Services Deliver comprehensive calibration services for control and instrumentation systems across the site Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and client-requested calibration activities Diagnose faults on field instrumentation, implementing corrective and remedial works as required Procedures, Planning & Maintenance Develop, implement, and maintain site calibration procedures and maintenance strategies Define, manage, and review equipment tolerances for plant and process systems Identify test equipment requirements and ensure appropriate workspace provisions for calibration activities Maximise plant and equipment availability through effective planned maintenance regimes Technical & Project Support Provide technical expertise to support projects, commissioning activities, and system handovers Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and A3 investigations, producing structured and actionable reports Initiate and receive Permits to Work in accordance with site procedures and safety requirements Asset, Spares & Supplier Management Identify spare parts requirements, raise purchase requests, and manage stock levels appropriately Coordinate dispatch and return of test equipment to third-party calibration suppliers in line with CMMS schedules Ensure all work orders are completed within contractual performance metrics and agreed timescales Collaboration & Operational Support Work closely with the Systems Manager and site management team to support operational objectives Provide cross-team and cross-account technical support when required Accountabilities Reporting to: Systems Manager Key Interfaces: Site Management Team Direct Reports: None Budget Responsibility: None (financial awareness required) Person Specification Education Good general education with strong written and spoken English Basic mathematical competency Training & Qualifications Completed formal apprenticeship in Calibration and Instrumentation HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline cGxP training (current Good Practice standards within regulated environments) Experience (Essential) Minimum three years’ experience in calibration and maintenance within a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, food processing, laboratory environments) Proven experience developing, writing, and maintaining calibration procedures Skills & Aptitudes Strong verbal and written communication skills High level of IT literacy, including experience with CMMS platforms Structured and methodical approach to fault-finding and technical documentation Personal Attributes Customer-focused with a commitment to high standards of service delivery Calm under pressure, able to make sound decisions in demanding environments Physically fit and capable of using vertical access equipment Comfortable working at height, including roof access where required Team-oriented, collaborative, and professional in approach

You will take ownership of production equipment, mentor a Junior Engineer, and contribute to production layout design, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities * Maintenance, Diagnostics & Reliability * Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on production and packaging equipment, including mixing vessels, pumps, motors, conveyors, fillers, and bottling lines. * Analyse equipment performance to identify root causes of breakdowns and inefficiencies. * Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime. * Fault-find electrical systems including motors, sensors, relays, contactors, control panels, and VFDs. * Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams. * Safely isolate, test, and reinstate electrical systems in line with UK regulations. * Automation, Process Improvement & Engineering Analysis * Identify opportunities to improve machine performance, reliability, safety, and efficiency. * Understand where machines are underperforming and implement solutions to improve throughput and consistency. * Support automation of manual or semi-automated processes. * Carry out basic PLC fault-finding or modifications and liaise with external specialists when required. * Install and commission instrumentation such as level sensors, flow meters, pressure switches, and safety devices. * Leadership, Projects & Layout Design * Provide day-to-day technical support and mentoring to a Junior Engineer. * Act as a senior technical presence on site with a hands-on approach. * Support and contribute to factory layout planning, understanding production flow and optimal machine positioning. * Specify, source, install, and commission new production equipment to increase capacity. * Work closely with suppliers, contractors, and service engineers on projects and upgrades. * Progress toward a hands-on Engineering Manager role as the team grows. * Health, Safety & Compliance * Work in full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and company policies. * Follow safe systems of work, risk assessments, and lock-off procedures. * Support compliance with PUWER and other relevant manufacturing regulations. * Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others at all times. * Documentation & Planning * Accurately record maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and improvements. * Assist with maintenance planning to reduce disruption to production. * Manage spare parts and consumables in a cost-effective manner. Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or similar) or strong equivalent experience. Significant experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical background with solid electrical fault-finding capability. Experience working with pumps, motors, control panels, sensors, and production machinery. Proven ability to analyse equipment issues and improve machine performance. Fabrication skills. Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and manage time effectively. Good written and spoken English. Desirable Experience with PLC-controlled machinery (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, or similar). Background in chemical, detergent, liquid processing, or food manufacturing. Experience installing and commissioning new machinery. Exposure to automation, instrumentation, or process control systems.
