Job Title: Accounts Assistant (Fleet). Reports to: Fleet Accountant Department: Finance Location: Exeter Head Office Key Purpose of Role The key purpose of the role is to provide accurate data regarding the purchasing and re-marketing of our fleet. Data will be sourced from the used vehicle market via market research and analysis, along with use of manufacturer websites. The role will ideally suit an analytical individual who has a keen interest in motor vehicles and works well as part of a team. Were happy to consider candidates who have recently left education, have a keen interest in numbers and are looking to take their first step in a finance team. Main Duties Measuring & analysing used vehicle online pricing Analysis of Industry Guide vehicle data Error and logic checking of retail pricing documents Identifying changes in used retail information Miscellaneous vehicle searches on an ad-hoc basis General data housekeeping Assist with the management of vehicle pricing files Run sense checks on pricing files to ensure accuracy at all times Assisting Pricing Team with Remarketing Enquiries as required Additional ad-hoc duties as given by Line Manager Special Working Conditions 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday Company Responsibilities To undertake any additional duties at the request of your Line Manager, that are deemed to be within your competency levels. To adhere to all Scot Group policies and procedures. To undertake any training and development activities at the request of your Line Manager. Keep safe and secure, all company assets. Contribute fully as a Team Member, assisting others in their roles as requested by Line Manager. Skills, Experience and/or Qualifications Required Ideally good working knowledge of Vehicle Manufacturers, Models, Derivatives & Features. Ideally a good knowledge of MS applications in particular Excel. Ability to analyse data and identify errors or trends. Ability to build an understanding of Scot Group internal and bespoke programs. Will have, or be able to learn quickly, comprehensive understanding of Thrifty Fleet. Must be open-minded and flexible within the role. The Role As a Management Accountant, you will manage and report on key financial areas, providing accurate insight and analysis to support business performance and strategic decision-making. You will prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts, develop financial schedules and support budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with colleagues across the business to align financial plans with organisational objectives. Through variance analysis and cost monitoring, you will provide clear insights into financial performance, supporting business leaders with financial models, scenario analysis and decision-making. Working collaboratively across UK and US teams, you will contribute to business planning, performance reviews and continuous improvement of financial processes, helping to enhance efficiency, accuracy and long-term financial strategy. Additionally, you will: • Perform variance analysis and investigate deviations from budgets and forecasts - Ensure compliance with financial policies and accounting standards - Liaise with auditors, tax advisors and regulatory bodies - Maintain and improve financial systems, identifying opportunities for automation Hybrid working is available, working a minimum of two days per week in our Exeter office. When the US team are here, you will be expected to be in the office daily. About You To be considered as a Management Accountant, you will need: • An ACA, CIMA or ACCA qualification with post-qualification experience - Experience of UK GAAP - Experience in budgeting, forecasting and monthly reporting cycles - Confidence in consolidating multiple accounts and developing financial planning templates/models - Strong working knowledge of Excel and financial systems - A basic understanding of corporate tax rules and compliance obligations - The ability to interpret and present financial data clearly and effectively - Familiarity with methods of cost control, margin analysis and KPIs The Benefits You will be joining a very supportive team where you will have the opportunity to grow and develop new skills. Record to Report (R2R) Accountant As an R2R Accountant, you'll ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of our financial reporting. You'll be pivotal in reviewing the company's financial position, maintaining robust documentation, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Your technical expertise will support both monthly operations and strategic financial decision-making. Key Deliverables Complete monthly, half-yearly, and annual close processes for the Pennon Group. Maintain the Fixed Asset Register with transactional entries and reconciliations. Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies. Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and internal policies. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial data accuracy. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather reporting and analysis information. Identify process improvement opportunities within the R2R function. Stay updated on changes to accounting standards and regulations. Required Experience & Skills Extensive accounting experience, including transactional accounting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for process improvement. Excellent communication skills to extract and document complex financial information. Sound knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Proficiency in accounting software. Qualifications Required: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent financial qualification.
