The Special Care and Community Dental Service (CDS) in Carlisle & Eden is seeking to recruit a compassionate and motivated individual to join our existing team of highly skilled clinicians and support staff providing dental care to our patients. We are looking for a clinician who makes patient care their first priority and who thrives working with a number of different patient groups. Being able to communicate effectively with both patients and staff is essential as you will be responsible for looking after some of the most vulnerable people in society. You will be supported to develop skills to deliver the main duties of the post in providing dental care for adult and child patients. You will enjoy the professional support of highly qualified and experienced colleagues, working within well-equipped modern dental clinics and other healthcare facilities. The main role of the Dental Officer is to provide routine dental care to patients referred to, or accessing the Dental Service. Responsibilities of the role include: • Providing dental care to patients with specific requirements using behavioural techniques, conscious sedation or general anaesthesia if within competencies., • Liaising with a range of social and other health care personnel and agencies to ensure the effective management of and delivery of care to patients with specific requirements., • Involved with the delivery of a domiciliary dental service to patients who may require such service., • Delivering care, as required, in a variety of locations within the defined localities of Carlisle & Eden. Disclosure and Barring Service: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post: • Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00. Essential • Experience of and an understanding of the challenges presented by special care patients., • Experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive material, • Experience of clinical audit Essential • Structure of local NHS Dental services, • Legislative framework governing the delivery of oral health care in England, • Contemporary knowledge of Specialist Society guidelines for clinical care, • Knowledge of legislation and guidance around process of consent, • Knowledge of current NHSE commissioning guidance for special care and paediatric dentistry Essential • Ability to organise own workload and manage priorities., • Expertise in a range of clinical dentistry, • Good interpersonal skills with citable examples of working as part of a wider dental team., • Demonstrable experience of audit, • Experience of and an understanding of the challenges presented by special care patients.
