Job Title: Senior product engineer/designer – Advanced machines Location: Sheffield, UK (primarily on-site, some flexibility) Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: £49,000 - £75,000 per annum About Fyous Fyous is building a new class of manufacturing technology — fast, digital, zero-waste, and fundamentally different to anything on the market today. We’re looking for an exceptional Lead Design Engineer to take a complex, integrated machine from prototype through to a repeatable, production-ready product. You’ll work directly with the founders and Senior Leadership Team, with significant freedom and responsibility to get things done properly. Our Culture At Fyous, culture is not an afterthought – it's a core driver of our success. We’re committed to continuously building a better, more resilient, and human-centric working environment. We value openness, learning, and integrity, and we actively invest in helping our team grow not just technically, but personally. All employees are encouraged to read from a curated library of books that shape how we work, communicate, and resolve conflict. Titles like Radical Candor by Kim Scott help foster a feedback-rich culture where people challenge directly while caring personally. Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers informs our understanding of how environment, practice, and opportunity shape excellence – lessons we apply in how we grow talent and structure work. This shared intellectual foundation helps align behaviours, encourage thoughtful communication, and support healthier resolution of internal friction. We believe great companies are built from the inside out – and that starts with how we treat each other every day. Role Responsibilities This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for an agile, creative engineer who is deeply passionate about great design and disruptive solutions. You’ll take pride in turning new technology into robust, manufacturable machines, working across individual parts, assemblies and complete systems. Challenges will be frequent and solving them is the job. As Senior product engineer/designer you will be responsible for early development of our first dental aligner moulding machine. You will lead the way from early concepts, testing, validation all the way through to producing the first production prototype. You will wear many hats and have experience in systems design across mechanical, software and electrical. You are a born maker, experimenter and problem solver. • Designing and developing complex mechanical systems, assemblies and full machines, • Develop processes and optimising parameters from test setups, • Integrating mechanical, electrical and software-controlled systems, • Building, testing and iterating prototypes on the shop floor, not just in CAD, • Running experiments, diagnosing failures and rapidly improving designs, • Scaling designs from prototype to production-ready hardware, • End-to-end engineering project ownership: planning, dependencies, risks and mitigation, • Monitoring progress and reporting clearly to senior stakeholders, • Managing requirements, interfaces and traceability across assemblies, • Ensuring requirements are correctly interpreted and implemented through development phases, • Driving design reviews and ensuring solutions follow robust engineering principles, • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, • Evaluating build processes for effectiveness, efficiency and quality, • Providing technical leadership on test planning, execution and reporting, • Assessing design maturity using performance data, FMEA and lessons learned, • Owning detail design sign-off including 3D models, drawings, tolerance stacks and engineering BOMs, • Managing engineering change, part approval and deviation processes, • Working directly with suppliers and manufacturing partners across the globe, • Supporting RFQ and supplier decision-making with technical expertise This role spans design, build, systems thinking, project management and delivery. You will be expected to operate comfortably across disciplines and take full ownership of outcomes. Ideal Candidate Profile We’re looking for a pragmatic engineer with a deep technical foundation and a hands-on mindset. Essential Skills & Experience: • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design or similar, • Software, programming or controls experience, • Proven experience taking complex machines from concept to market launch, • Experience scaling from prototype to low–medium volume production (~500 units/year), • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals (mechanisms, tolerances, materials), • Practical experience integrating electrical systems, actuators, sensors and control software, • Strong understanding of systems engineering, requirements management and risk management, • Experience of international regulations related to the safe supply of machinery and CE certification, • Experience managing design changes, approvals and technical trade-offs, • Ability to assess cost implications of design decisions and drive cost-effective solutions, • Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, PLM systems and analysis tools, • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving ability, grounded in data and evidence, • The ability to clearly explain technical findings and recommendations to senior leadership, • A strong bias toward practical, on-site engineering and experimentation, • High ownership, sound judgement and a track record of shipping real hardware Compensation & Benefits • Salary: £49,000 - £75,000 depending on experience., • Equity: All employees receive equity., • Private Healthcare: Full coverage provided., • Product Perks: Discounted Mous products., • Development Support: Training and growth encouraged.
