Strategic Sustainability Director Location: Glasgow (hybrid / flexible) Level: Senior leadership A well-established sustainability and built environment consultancy is making a deliberate investment in growing its UK presence, with Scotland and Glasgow at the centre of that strategy. As part of this growth, they are seeking a Strategic Sustainability Director to take a leading role in shaping, growing, and ultimately owning the sustainability offering. This is not a delivery-only role. It is a senior, commercially focused leadership position with genuine influence over strategy, people, and growth. The Opportunity • Lead and grow a sustainability business unit with full senior backing, • Play a key role in business development, client relationships, and market positioning, • Shape service lines, identify diversification opportunities, and drive long-term profitability, • Build, manage, and develop high-performing teams, • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, senior stakeholders, and the board, • You will work closely with Directors and the Managing Director, contributing directly to company-wide strategy, financial performance, and future direction. Key Responsibilities Business Development & Growth • Drive lead generation and sales activity across sustainability and ESG services, • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, • Represent the business at industry events, networks, and professional forums, • Take responsibility for financial performance, KPIs, and growth targets, • Support cashflow forecasting, invoicing, and commercial risk management, • Lead teams and act as Project Lead on key commissions, • Support recruitment, performance management, and professional development, • Ensure projects meet internal quality, profitability, and regulatory standards, • Uphold ISO, Health & Safety, and internal systems compliance, • Operating at Director, Associate Director, or Practice Lead level, • Commercially minded, with a strong track record in winning work and growing services, • Comfortable managing people, budgets, and senior stakeholders, • Technically credible within sustainability, ESG, carbon, or climate-related services, • A natural leader who enjoys building teams and shaping strategy Chartership or relevant professional membership is expected, along with a commitment to maintaining CPD.
