TITLE: Baggage Control Operative DEPARTMENT: Technical Services Department DIVISION: Operations REPORTING TO: Baggage Operation Control Supervisor JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY: The main role of a Baggage Control Operative is to ensure the smooth running of all the baggage handling systems (Inbound and Outbound). To work as part of a team, continually looking for improvements to enhance the service we provide. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: Below is a description of the general day to day duties & responsibilities for this position; please note, this list is not exhaustive, and you may be asked by your Line Manager to fulfil duties not listed below: • Demonstrate and deliver the LLA way., • To proactively monitor (SCADA), record and resolve any faults within the baggage handling systems, in conjunction with the systems maintenance provider., • Monitor and drive a high level of safety standards within the baggage makeup areas., • Actively engage with ground handling agents and other agencies working within our area of control., • Engage with baggage handling agents, to assess and continually improve system performance, with a view to optimise operations., • Input all flight information and check that all the information is up to date including desk/ chute allocation., • Produce baggage manifests for the handling agents of the daily flight schedule for departing flights including opening and closing times and chute allocation, • Work with LLA security department to conduct hold baggage screening (HBS) X-ray testing, reporting any defects to LLAOL operational Duty Managers., • Monitor the Allocation of the inbound baggage carousels on the automated AMS system. Transferring baggage to other available belts when issues arise – such as mechanical/electrical system failures., • Carry out Health and Safety Inspection, reporting any defects to the relevant Departmental Managers., • Act as airside assembly point officer in respect of terminal evacuation, • Assist in the maintenance and development of the Baggage Operations Safety Management System (BOSMS)., • Utilise TSD’s CAFM system to complete regular planned tasks, such as cleaning of the baggage system and ancillary equipment., • Partake in all training (existing and future) associated with the role of Baggage Operations Controller., • Comply with or support any required changes to instructions, procedures, and processes., • Escorting and monitoring of contractor’s airside., • Drive safety standards from the front line, across the Baggage Handling Environment., • Acting as an advocate for the Baggage Handling Department and pro-actively interface with other contractors such as Ground Handling Agents and Baggage Maintenance System Providers., • This role will require high levels of physical ability, due to manual handling of heavy loads, • Monitor UK Boarder Force usage of Baggage reclaim 4, • Create shared learning documents where required support will be given., • Allocation and cleaning of ABD automatic bag drop machines and Front of house Kiosks during system down time., • Contribute to delivering a great guest experience by performing your role with accuracy and efficiency. Recognising that every task whether guest facing or behind the scenes contributes to supporting the company’s overall LLA Way Strategy and service standards., • Proactively and positively promote the LLA Way initiatives and projects with all employees and the wider airport community. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate is expected to have experience and knowledge in the following: • Interpersonal Skill; Teamwork, • Radio Telephony skills, • Be familiar with a regulated working environment., • Have an awareness of Safety and Emergency procedures., • Computer literate, • Familiar with inbound carousel allocation, • Experience in using SCADA (System control and data acquisition) software or similar, • Hands on experience of operating and working within a departure baggage or similar processing system PERSON SPECIFICATION: The ideal candidate is expected to show the following key skills: • Commitment, • A positive attitude, • Problem solving skills, • A Team player, • Precise and accurate, • A willingness to learn and continually improve themselves and the operation, • Ability to coach and teach others, • Safety focused WORK PATTERNS: To ensure the baggage system always has suitable levels of operational support throughout the year, this role entails an alternating shift pattern of days and nights, with a float system across a 5-week period.
