Position Summary The Vice President of Environmental Policy and Governmental Affairs serves as a strategic leader in achieving “water wins,” victories toward our organizational mission to protect South Florida’s waterways. This position will lead Miami Waterkeeper’s strategic advocacy efforts, requiring the ability to implement multidisciplinary campaigns that drive meaningful environmental change. The Vice President represents the organization before elected officials and government agencies, while guiding a team that develops innovative policy solutions and advocacy strategies. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, relationship builder, and strategist with a passion for environmental advocacy. Position Duties and Responsibilities Legislative and Governmental Affairs • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, and government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels, • Monitor, track, and analyze legislation and regulatory proposals impacting South Florida’s waterways, • Develop and implement advocacy strategies in partnership with the Waterkeeper and Chief Programs Officer to advance Miami Waterkeeper’s policy priorities, • Represent Miami Waterkeeper in legislative hearings, rulemaking processes, and public forums, • Draft and review policy documents, legislative language, comment letters, testimony, and action alerts, • Coordinate and strengthen partnerships with coalitions, advocacy groups, and stakeholders to align efforts and amplify impact Strategic Advocacy and Campaign Planning • Identify emerging policy issues and advise the organization on legislative opportunities and challenges, • Work with the Chief Programs Officer and Waterkeeper to develop and implement advocacy strategies to address priority environmental issues in South Florida, and set team priorities, and annual campaign goals, • Oversee Miami Waterkeeper’s engagement in litigation, legislation, and rulemaking to ensure alignment with strategic goals, • Collaborate with outside counsel, partners, and team members on legal briefs, draft legislation, and technical comment letters, • Represent Miami Waterkeeper at public events, meetings, and conferences to advance policy initiatives Team Leadership and Management • Project manage the policy team priorities, • Coordinate with other team leaders to work on common objectives across the organization, • Supervise at least two team members and relevant contractors, • Develop and manage the team’s annual budget, • Support the grants team on funding opportunities and reporting requirements, • Review and approve team deliverables, including talking points, action alerts, and other external communications Candidate Qualifications • 7+ years of policy, strategy, public policy, and/or legislative experience, • Experience working within or directly with regulatory agencies is a plus, • Experience managing and developing a team, • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex policy and political environments, • Flexible, creative, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences, • Collaborative mindset and ability to build strong relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders Benefits • Medical, dental, and vision plan, • Retirement Account (with limited 401K matching), • Generous time off policies, • Remote work flexibility (2 days/week), • Relaxed and supportive work atmosphere and dress code POLICY ON PLACEMENT AND RECRUITING Miami Waterkeeper is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Analyze data, qualify and perform targeted prospecting for new business. D. Maintain Sales Tracking System updated with detailed notes in activities through Sales Force and Opera PMS. E. Understand and stay ahead of local group and event markets and competitive set. F. Build long-term, value-based account relationships enabling the achievement of revenue targets. G. Entertain clients in accordance with established hotel policies and guidelines. H. Travel to key markets to meet with existing and new target accounts. I. Maintain focus on future booking pace from established and potential accounts. J. Manage group portals and website platforms (Cvent, HelmsBriscoe, Leading Hotels of the World, American Express Meeting & Events, etc). K. Respond to group RFPs, send proposals, prepare and negotiate group contracts. L. Understand and build brand awareness of Carillon Miami Wellness Resort by partnering with the GMCVB, GMBHA, local business chambers and other groups to establish and foster new business relationships while emphasizing the wellness and spa niche market for the brand. M. Assist in completing group market segment components of the Marketing Plan. N. Understand and develop hotel’s sales and catering strategies in order to generate appropriate group promotions, packages, etc. O. Consistently meets/exceeds individual revenue goals (i.e.: room night and food and beverage and overall revenue production). P. Achieve solicitation call requirements and perform outside sales calls. Q. Represent hotel at travel industry tradeshows, conferences and meetings. R. Ensures all billing and accounting process are executed for all group and catering business. S. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive client data and hotel intellectual properties. T. Work cohesively in a team environment or excel independently with minimal supervision. U. Host sites inspections to showcase property to potential groups, catering events, business partners and team members. V. Create and distribute group resumes, BEO’s for all while also leading pre con / post con meetings with all operational departments involved. W. Collaborate with food and beverage departments to ensure all banquet requirements are met. X. Deliver professional, engaging, and efficient guest service from initial contact to final follow up. Y. Act as main onsite contact and manage banquet staff before, during and after events. Z. Attends and participates in all pertinent meetings AA. Perform any other duties as assigned by Management. III. Education, Experience and Skill Requirements A. Previous hotel group sales experience is required. Ideal to have experience in the Miami Beach/ South Florida market is preferred but not mandatory. B. Experience with hotel PMS System (Opera) (preferred) or other PMS system and the Sales Tracking System currently in use is preferred, but not required. C. Minimum 3 years of experience working with clients who have group business, both domestic and international markets. D. Must possess excellent communication, organizational, written and verbal skills. E. Demonstrates effective sales skills with the ability to close sales. F. Highly motivated with strong closing skills. G. Must be able to interact efficiently and professionally with a diverse group of people (i.e., potential guests, guests, management and staff). H. Detail oriented and a good negotiator with strong presentation skills. I. Well organized with the ability to follow through on all sales activities with accounts. J. Able to analyze information, problem-solve and make practical decisions. K. Ability to ensure confidentiality of guest and data. L.
