Job Description The Senior CAD / BIM Designer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing detailed electrical design and construction models using CAD and BIM technologies. This role supports project teams by producing coordinated electrical layouts, prefabrication drawings, and clash-free models that align with project specifications, schedules, and construction standards. The Senior CAD/BIM Designer plays a key role in design coordination, model development, and cross-discipline collaboration to ensure efficient installation of electrical systems on complex commercial large commercial facilities. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities • Develop and maintain detailed 3D BIM models for electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, grounding, cable tray, conduit routing, and equipment layouts., • Produce coordinated shop drawings, installation drawings, and fabrication drawings., • Create LOD 300–400 models suitable for construction and prefabrication., • Develop electrical layouts in accordance with project specifications and NEC requirements., • Participate in BIM coordination meetings with project teams and trade partners., • Perform clash detection using Navisworks or similar software., • Resolve coordination issues between electrical systems and other trades such as mechanical, plumbing, and structural., • Coordinate model changes with project managers, superintendents, and field teams., • Assist with model-based layout and field installation planning., • Update models to reflect field changes and design revisions., • Maintain BIM standards, templates, and modeling best practices., • Ensure drawings comply with company drafting standards and project BIM execution plans., • Manage version control and drawing revisions., • Provide guidance and training to junior CAD/BIM designers and drafters., • Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and constructability., • Assist leadership with improving BIM workflows and design processes. Qualifications: Education and Experience Required: • 5–10+ years of experience in CAD drafting or BIM modeling for electrical construction., • Strong experience with:, • Autodesk Revit, • AutoCAD, • Experience modeling electrical systems such as:, • Power distribution, • Lighting systems, • Cable tray, • Conduit routing, • Equipment layouts, • Experience working on commercial construction projects., • Strong understanding of NEC (National Electrical Code) and electrical installation practices. Working Environment & Conditions: • Combination of office environment and occasional project site visits, • May require coordination with field teams and project stakeholders, • Ability to work extended hours when required to meet project deadlines Associated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems design and layout including power distribution, lighting, cable tray, conduit routing, and grounding systems., • Strong understanding of BIM coordination processes and model development for commercial and mission-critical construction projects., • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks for developing and coordinating electrical BIM models., • Ability to perform clash detection and coordination between electrical systems and other trades such as mechanical, plumbing, structural, and fire protection., • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and general electrical construction practices., • Ability to interpret construction documents, engineering drawings, and project specifications., • Experience producing shop drawings, installation drawings, and prefabrication spool sheets to support field construction., • Strong understanding of BIM Levels of Development (LOD 300–400) and model-based construction workflows., • Ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and field personnel to resolve design and constructability issues., • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve design conflicts during the coordination process., • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines., • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior CAD/BIM designers and drafters., • Effective written and verbal communication skills to participate in coordination meetings and present technical information clearly., • Familiarity with construction project management platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, or Procore (preferred). Working Environment & Conditions/Physical Requirements • Primarily office-based with extended periods working at a computer workstation., • Occasional travel to construction job sites for coordination meetings, field verification, and project support., • Interaction with multiple departments including engineering, project management, VDC/BIM teams, and field operations., • Exposure to active construction environments during site visits, including noise, dust, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions. Physical Requirements • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on computer-aided design and modeling software., • Ability to stand, walk, and navigate active construction sites when required., • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 25 pounds such as plans, equipment, or project documents., • Visual ability to review detailed drawings, models, and technical documents on computer monitors., • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and field personnel in both office and job site settings., • Ability to use standard office equipment including computers, monitors, keyboards, and printers for extended periods.
