Job DescriptionInsurance Defense Attorney Insurance Defense Attorney Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join our litigation team and represent insurer clients in a broad range of liability matters. The ideal candidate will manage a full litigation caseload from inception through trial, providing strategic legal advice, conducting discovery and depositions, drafting pleadings and motions, and advocating for clients in settlement negotiations and court proceedings. This role requires strong trial experience, excellent client communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with claims professionals and outside experts while meeting firm and client objectives. Key Responsibilities • Manage a diverse caseload of insurance defense matters, including bodily injury, property damage, coverage disputes, and commercial liability claims., • Conduct case intake, analyze policies and coverage issues, and develop litigation strategy in coordination with claims handlers and senior counsel., • Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and other litigation documents in state and federal courts., • Plan, coordinate and take depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts; prepare witnesses for testimony., • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex legal and factual issues related to liability, coverage, and damages., • Prepare for and try cases in court as needed; present opening statements, examine and cross-examine witnesses, and handle closing arguments., • Negotiate settlements and mediations with defense counsel, plaintiffs, and claims professionals to achieve favorable client outcomes., • Manage case budgets, prepare litigation cost estimates, and work with clients to optimize cost-effective litigation strategies., • Collaborate with experts, adjusters, and outside vendors to gather evidence and build defense theories., • Provide timely and clear client communications, status reports, and litigation updates; respond to client questions and instructions., • Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and support staff; delegate tasks and review work product for quality and compliance., • Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with firm policies, court rules, and ethical obligations.Qualifications, • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in which the attorney will practice., • 3+ years of civil litigation experience; insurance defense experience preferred., • Proven courtroom experience, with depositions and trial experience strongly preferred., • Experience handling commercial litigation, business litigation, or similar complex liability matters., • Strong drafting skills for pleadings, motions, discovery and legal memoranda., • Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation skills, with demonstrated client-facing experience., • Solid legal research skills and familiarity with relevant statutes, rules of civil procedure, and evidentiary law., • Ability to manage a heavy caseload, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating with a team., • Professional demeanor, strong ethics, and the ability to maintain client confidences and manage sensitive information., • Proficiency with litigation support tools, case management software, and common office technology., • Desired skills: Legal, Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Business Litigation, Attorney/Associate Attorney experience, Deposition practice, Trial advocacy. - For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
