Job DescriptionDescription: Purpose: Promotes and restores clients’ health by developing day-to-day management and supervisory coverage of three 24/7 client units in RSI. This is a working supervisory position, helping to assist in direct client care, as well as supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities require extensive knowledge of RSI policy and procedures and extensive knowledge of nursing best practices. Whereas, this position reports to the VP/Executive Director of RSI, there will be collaboration with the Director of Nursing for Wyandot Center as needed. Additionally, this position will work closely with key stakeholders in the community. Accountabilities: • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization, • The ability to work multiple shifts, including nights, holidays and weekends, as necessary to provide supervision and oversight to a 24/7 facility., • Assess client care requirements on each unit, by making frequent rounds of these units, • Develops and implement staffing plan for shift based on client acuity, client census and available staff, • Serves as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems, • Provides for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to the Executive Director., • Responds to emergency situations and assists as necessary., • Acts as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems, • Anticipates actual/potential problems that may occur on various shifts and sets shift priorities accordingly., • Work collaboratively with nursing, ancillary staff, other Managers and other departments to solve problems in a fair, consistent manner., • Contacts representatives from collaborating agencies, not presently at RSI, for assistance with problem solving in a timely and appropriate manner., • Reports to the Executive Director any significant incidents or problems with staffing or client care., • Provides support, guidance and feedback to staff., • Participates and completes performance evaluations and goals., • Identifies and communicates staff needs for continuing education to Executive Director., • Assist staff to interpret change in a positive manner., • Assist staff to provide a safe work environment for client care., • Keeps professionally current, by attending continuing education programs, seminars, workshops, and/or independent research reading., • Consistently and independently follows established safety and infection control procedures. Intervenes in unsafe situations., • Complies with the standards of conduct and corporate compliance and seeks guidance when in doubt., • Meets and exceeds expectations of individuals for whom service is provided., • Assists prescribers and staff in admissions criteria for assigning admission status to clients. Intervenes if admissions criteria policy is not being followed., • Monitors staff documentation for adherence to insurance and organization requirements., • Participates and/or facilities staff trainings., • Assesses and completes corrective actions as needed for staff not meeting expectations of their positions., • Accomplishes nursing human resource objectives by selecting, orientating, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling and disciplining staff; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions, recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures., • Identifies client service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual clients and other individuals in a position to understand service requirements., • Maintains documentation of client services by auditing client and center records., • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments., • Directly collaborates with prescribers to ensure continuity of quality client care regarding effectiveness of medications, assessments, treatment plans, reviews etc. Monitors and evaluates care consistently., • Provides direct nursing care, assessments, and intervention to clients to ensure quality care. Coordinates activities with appropriate shift supervisors and/or other supervisors or designate., • Responds to, assesses, intervenes and provides direction in both physical and psychiatric crisis/emergency situations to ensure client and staff safety., • Interacts with clients to resolve issues, concerns, and complaints related to client rights and treatment issues. Communicates and documents such to Executive Director., • Ensures the preparation and maintenance of necessary reports, documentation and treatment records to ensure communication of quality client care, and timely and accurate records., • Provides accurate and concise reports between shifts – verbally and in writing – to ensure effective communication among team members to promote consistency and quality care and safety., • Monitors work environment, equipment and supplies to promote highest standards of care, hygiene, safety, control and security. Reports issues and ensures correction and maintenance to policy, standards and regulations., • Promotes standards of care, infection control standards, cleanliness and safety by exhibiting good work habits and training staff on appropriate processes/procedures. Acts as a role model to staff and clients., • Complies with and ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures., • Follows and complies with all local, state and federal regulations, laws and standards including all job-specific guidelines and codes, including client care, nursing and safety., • Follows all organizational and departmental policies, procedures and practices including those outlined in the employee handbook or other work-related references and resources. Upholds and activity demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values in all interactions., • Upholds confidentiality and proper safeguarding and handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) as outlined under the provisions of HIPAA privacy regulations [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996], related policies and practices., • Demonstrates continued competence in providing quality care through attendance, active participation and successful completion of on-going education and training. Maintains needed training and education to meet job expectations, licensure, compliance and position competency. Education: Possesses license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas. Knowledge of and practical application of hospital and nursing policies, procedures and related regulations. Experience serving clients with mental illness and the assessment and treatment of clients requiring psychoactive medication. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within thirty (30) of hire. Experience: • A minimum of 3 years experience as a nurse practicing in a psychiatric facility. Preference given to those with previous managerial experience., • Familiarity with mental health theory and practice., • Familiarity with treatment planning approaches relevant to professional discipline., • Relates positively with staff, prescribers, colleagues and representatives of other agencies., • Communicates directly and effectively in a cooperative manner., • Familiarity with ethical considerations in behavioral healthcare. Supervisory experience preferred. Skills & Abilities: • Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences., • Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation., • Ability to safely perform work that requires physical strength to frequently and repetitively bend, stoop, walk, push, pull, twist, grip, reach, squat; and to lift clients with assistance., • Have the ability to lift, carry and/or move over 30 pounds repetitively., • Ability to safely respond to aggressive client behavior with specific, authorized techniques., • Working knowledge and application of relevant federal state and local regulations and codes (e.g., application of standards to daily work, health and safety requirements, etc.)., • Ability to follow and complete directions and assignments., • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments., • Ability to make independent decisions., • Strong communication skills to communicate job expectations, changes and training in effective ways., • Demonstrated good interpersonal to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers, outside vendors, contractors and clients, etc., • Effective time management and communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities., • Ability to recognize problems and demonstrated good judgment and common sense in problem-solving. Work Conditions and Considerations: This position is located within a 24 hour facility and flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business. May be required to work evening, nights or weekends, including holidays. This position presents on-going possibility of safety risks, due to the nature of the work, to include exposure to and disposal of bio-hazardous waste.
