Job Description Residential Construction Project Manager Carpenters and Field Professionals Encouraged to Apply Ready to take the next step beyond working on the tools every day? Shells Only Home Improvements is seeking an experienced residential construction professional to oversee remodeling and new-construction projects throughout Long Island. This opportunity is ideal for a carpenter, lead carpenter, foreman, contractor, or skilled tradesperson who understands how homes are built and is ready to transition into project leadership. You don’t necessarily need to have “Project Manager” on your résumé. If you’re already the person crews rely on for direction, answers, and problem-solving, we want to hear from you. This is a field-based leadership position—not a paperwork-only office role. You’ll need hands-on construction knowledge, the ability to recognize quality workmanship, and the experience to keep crews, subcontractors, materials, and schedules moving in the right direction. Responsibilities You will oversee residential construction projects from the initial start through completion. Our work includes dormers, home extensions, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, whole-house renovations, and new-home construction. Your responsibilities will include: • Overseeing daily activity at multiple job sites, • Coordinating employees, trade crews, and subcontractors, • Reviewing construction plans and anticipating upcoming project needs, • Confirming that labor, materials, equipment, and tools are ready when needed, • Monitoring workmanship and maintaining quality standards, • Identifying and resolving field issues before they affect the project, • Keeping construction schedules organized and on track, • Communicating with homeowners, office personnel, designers, sales staff, and field crews, • Maintaining safe, clean, and orderly job sites, • Ensuring each project continues progressing toward completion You will not be expected to frame, trim, or install cabinets all day. However, you must have enough real-world experience to recognize when work has been completed correctly—and when it hasn’t. The Right Background This position may be a strong fit if you: • Have several years of residential construction experience, • Currently work as a carpenter, lead carpenter, foreman, contractor, or skilled tradesperson, • Understand how residential projects are built from one phase to the next, • Are physically ready to move away from full-time tool work, • Can interpret plans, organize work, and think several steps ahead, • Remain professional when jobs become busy or stressful, • Naturally take the lead and are regularly asked for guidance in the field, • Want to build a long-term career in construction management We are not looking for someone who simply wants a management title. We need someone who understands the work, accepts responsibility, solves problems, and is prepared to lead. A positive, accountable attitude is essential—chronic complainers will not be a good fit. Qualifications • Extensive knowledge of residential construction and remodeling, • Carpentry experience strongly preferred, • Familiarity with dormers, extensions, kitchens, bathrooms, renovations, and related work, • Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction plans, • Ability to complete material takeoffs, • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, • Experience coordinating crews and subcontractors, • Excellent organization and time-management skills, • Strong attention to workmanship and detail, • Valid driver’s license, • Willingness to learn and follow the Shells Only project-management process, • Ability to represent the company professionally with customers and trade partners Previous project-management experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who brings strong construction knowledge, leadership ability, and the right work ethic. What Shells Only Offers • Full-time employment, • Base salary determined by experience, • Additional commission opportunity, • Company vehicle, • Consistent residential construction projects, • A path away from daily physical labor and into project leadership, • Long-term growth with an established Long Island home-improvement companyCompany DescriptionShells Only Home Improvements has been building and remodeling homes on Long Island for decades.
